Hi guys,
My first post here. I've had a couple of Musicman in the past, but I'm now looking into Petrucci's models.
I found on Craigslist two nice ones and I have no idea which one to pick..
Option #1: JP6 All options, Mystic Dream --> 1400$
Option #2: JPXI BFR All options, sparkling black --> 1500$

They both come with all accessories and they seem to be very very clean based on pics.
Which oned would you recommend? I'm a very versatile player, playing both acoustic (looking forward to the piezo) and electric, either pop-rock and also, of course some Dream Theater (well, trying).

Cheers all for your advice!

What were your arguments towards the BFR rather than for the JP6 mystic dream?

The main difference for me is actually the concave routing for your picking arm on the original JP's. I am one of the people who really likes it, and it is why the JP6 or JP7 is the more comfortable one for me. But, if you are a fan of the way a Strat feels, then the JPXI is going to be great for you. Also consider what you think about unfinished vs painted necks, rosewood vs ebony, etc. One final note, to me at least, the JP6 is a guitar that begs you to play just about any style on it, whereas the XI asks to be shredded on. The XI has a noticeably flatter fretboard.

Whichever you pick (or better yet - both!), you will own a fine instrument!

I feel like 1400 is a bit high for a JP6 even with the piezo?? the BFR is a better deal overall to me...

Right, but the Mystic dream finish makes it a bit pricey-er, doesn't it? Some on ebay start higher than that.

It's hard to put my hands on them since the guys don't live exactly nearby. I obviously can't get both, financially speaking, so it feels like I'm just on a coin flip here. Tough tough..

I personally find the stock JP6 to be a bit more tonally versatile than the JPXI, it has a less extreme neck, and in my experience they're lighter in weight. Having said that, I love the XI too! I sold both of mine but if I could have one back I'd probably take the XI on looks alone.

Here it is!
Neck is truly amazing, really really fast.
One thing I didn't notice first. The D string "fizzes" when played non-fretted (fret 0).
Indeed the saddle on the D string seems high, the A a little bit too actually.
Is that an easy fix?
I'm attaching a picture to make things easier.
Thanks!
