I was about to bring my brand new Y2D on the road with me this weekend. Then I envisioned its journey which would no doubt include various TSA agents swabbing the floyd rose to see if it's a bomb, and then the baggage handlers tossing the case 50 feet though the air onto a pile of luggage. I could carry it on, but many times in the past, they don't let you do that either. In the end I caved in to the pressure and just brought my trusty axis with me which is already road worn. Now I'm sitting here looking a pictures of the Y2D longingly, wishing I had it here with me. And at that moment someone sent me this article that some of you may find interesting:

That's a great link, Richie. Love the vid!

You probably made the right call on the Y2D.

Waaaaaay too soon for battle scars surely?

Soft case and carry it on. I checked the American Airlines rules and almost brought a guitar with me on vacation to Aruba. They can go in the overhead as your carry on bag, and then you only get a personal item, which must fit under the seat in front of you.

I've done this with Axis' and now a 25th with several airlines. Just make sure you watch the other passengers and their loading of the bin.

I actually check my guitar in a case extreme shell. It's this plastic material that looks like cardboard but it's very strong, and actually works better than standard Wood/Foam/Metal road cases. The guitar goes in a gig bag, then into this shell. It's worked very well for us. My only problem is when they open the case and go through it. They're not exactly the most careful bunch when it comes to instruments. That's why I wanted to carry on the Y2D. The only reason I didn't bring it is because several times in the past, the gate agents have flat out told me, "we will not let you on the plane with that, even if it does fit in the overhead bin." So, the thought of it sitting in a soft case rolling around the bottom of the plane was unsettling.
