OK,

In my quest for an Albert Lee, I talked to my EBMM dealer today and came up with a quote for the options I want. Now I just have to send my taxes off and wait and wait and wait... But that's good, cause I can't decide on what color I want to go with.
I like warm colors and the Translucent Orange and Gold are speaking to me the most. However, I'm not really comfortable with the color samples EBMM are showing. The Gold looks more like Butterscotch or Amber, and the Orange looks kind of dark and not really 'orange.' So any of you have an EBMM in these colors, and can you share some pics? Of course, pics can turn out quite different from the actual color, so there's the same problem all over again. I'm just looking for some feedback I guess. My mind is saying Orange, but my eyes like the Gold, but the Gold seems to be a fairly common color, and I'm wanting something a little different. Any help with this would be great. Thank you!

Here's a picture of my son's orange Axis SS (this used to be mine).

The gold looks much more orange in the chart than when I've seen live. I actually prefer the gold. To me it's more of a very pleasant shade of yellow (and I typically don't like yellow). It looks great on an Axis/Axis SS with quilted maple.

Jimi,

Is your Axis the translucent gold?

It's almost like you need a different chart for each guitar, with the translucent colors, since they look so different on depending on what type of wood it is.

jimi's pic is prolly the best example of the trans orange finish in my opinion. if its a little too orange for you and you'd be up for a little more yellowish then you could go trans gold. either way you can't loose!

Thanks for the fine looking pics! So far, I'm leaning in the Translucent Gold direction. I like the 'yellowish' tint to it. Sort of a 'vintage' looking color. However, I'm wondering what the Orange would look like with a White Pearloid pickguard?

And yes, I do love the Medallion Gold pic from NAMM, but I imagine that paint job (if available) would be quite an upcharge.
Plus, I like to see the wood grain, so I'm gonna stick with the translucent option. But that Gold Medallion sure is fine looking!

Any other examples from the forum members? Hey, it's a good excuse to show of your babies and help someone out! :p

The Trans-Orange on my AL reminds me of Gretsch orange - it's a warm with country flavor - it makes me think of Roy Orbison and Hee Haw and Chet and all that stuff I was growing up with on the Prairie... I like it, but it's not for everybody, that's for sure...

If you go to the Musician's friend website and look up the AL they have a pretty decent pic of it in trans yellow iirc...

Once again, thanks for the thoughts and opinions. Jimi D, you may have something there with saying the Orange reminds you of the Gretsch orange. I've always loved that color. Jimi D, do you think the pic of your AL represents the actual color in person?

I've seen the Translucent Gold pic on the Musicians Friend site and it does look nice. However, would it be considered a 'common color' among AL's? I had an Amber Wolfgang a few years ago, and the guitar was just gorgeous, but the color just didn't stand out IMHO. I loved the guitar but wished I'd choosen a different color. Eventually, I sold it cause it just didn't jazz me up to play. I really respond to in your face colors. That's why I'm pushing for the Orange even though my eyes like the looks of the Gold better in pics. (note the MF site had a Gold AL in the scratch and dent sale as of Sunday for $1139 I think)

I'm an Orange fan no doubt. My kitchen is Pumpkin Orange. It always feels like the warmest and most fun room in the house. I want that same kind of response with my future Albert Lee model.
