...and was wondering if any of you can recommend some good locations to possible pick up a new EBMM. I will be without a car and staying downtown so they will have to be within a sane taxi rides distance.

Thanks,
M@

GC in SF has em.
Rocker Guitars in SF (one of the best stores for guitars & amps, low on accessories)
Haight Ashbury Music Center has EBs but its not that good of a store (high prices etc)
B Street Music in San Mateo has some (not a great shop)
GC in San Jose
Guitar Showcase in the south bay might have em but i've never been there

GC on Van Ness. I was there late last year and they had a nice selection. The bass guy was very helpful and not high pressure at all. I was able to check out a 25th, a Big Al, and a Sterling 5. If they would have had the 25th model I was looking for I would have bought from them. Overall a very good experience.

Good luck in your travels.

Guitar Center in San Jose has a *great* selection of EBMM basses. Guitar Showcase has a handful of basses at most usually.

I went to GC San Fran about 8 months ago, great MM selection, where I first saw a Big Al, but was afraid to play it. Now I own one. I was afraid of exactly what?

San Fran is my favourite city, we just have to get those 49ers firing again. Although the Oakland Raiders are doing better than expected

Thanks for all the great tips. I will be there for a week but have literally no free time. I have a few hours free after I arrive and on the morning I fly back. Looks like GC on Van Ness will be the best place to go. Its not too far from my hotel. Maybe I can score something nice, I'm thinking about a Sterling 5 string or another Big AL :)
