When fully on the treble pot is now making a very audible hiss.

Any ideas on the cause?

Thanks

Most noise in your setup is going to be in the treble range, so increasing the treble is going to increase noise/hiss/whatever, so to some extent, this is pretty normal.

You said it is "now" making a very audible hiss, do you mean it didn't before?

Liam have you tried cleaning the pot? You may need to go buy some contact cleaner (most electronic stores have it) and give it a good cleaning.

Is your amp volume level turned up high?. check your tone settings on the amp
sometimes extreme levels will produce hiss at high level settings without hitting a note. I had a GK amp that did that.

Liam.

Something I try to keep on hand for usch things (although it may not always be down to dust/crud), is something called sprayduster. Basically CO2 in a can for blowing cr@p away at high speed....

Might help?

There are solvents made for cleaning electrical parts that work better than C02 because they flush the crap out of the pot.

And everybody knows that you need to flush the crap out of the pot! :D

I don't know if Radio Shack still carries it, but they used to have a product called TV Tuner Cleaner and it worked great for cleaning electronic parts.

You're right Jon/Mobay etc.

I used to use this stuff, and forgot to mention it!

Liam, this stuff is worth having anyway, so perhaps give it a go?

D'oh!
