OK, I have to ask! Why are the control cavities routed so the cavity plate fits flush with the body, yet the Trem Cavity plate sits on the guitar?

What's the deal?

The only one that sees that when you're playing has one eye and a pair of b........ nevermind; it's cost effective and keeps the prices down with a low aesthetic impact and no functional impact.

FWIW, none of the guitars I own has the trem plates still on the guitar.. I tinker with the springs and claw too often. Plus trem plates are handy to have around at EBMM clinics and events for the occasional autograph.

Good question. Maybe enough people leave the trem cavity cover off that they didn't feel it was worthy of a flush mount?

This is only a guess -

If the trem cavity cover is raised it will be the first thing to come in contact with the player. The trem cavity cover will then take more of the abuse (buckle rash) as opposed to the finish getting all of it.

Nobody else finds the springs vibrate if you don't have the backplate on? I always have it on, with tissue resting on the springs. That noise really annoys me.

It's a clearance issue in regards to the tremolo block.

that was my guess.

same here, i have some cotton pads wedged underneath each spring. not to mention, it makes me feel akward playing a guitar without the trem plate on it...i feel like the springs are gonna catch on something. i know its not equivalent to playing without the control cavity off...but it feels that way to me hehe.
