Yo guys, long time no post.

I got my JPX yesterday (see picstory here: NGD! - Purple Picstory Content (56k, you're kidding right?) - Sevenstring.org) and when to adjust the trem a tad and when I took the back plate off I noticed one of the screw heads that holds the claw was completely stripped out

I only need one, is there any way I can get one? I'm gunna have to get it out, but I can't until I have one to replace it lol.

I'm in the UK btw.

Nick

Also, I've heard recently the nut on Petrucci (and possible other hardtails, can't remember of the top of my head) is a standard Graphtech?!?!

If that's true I'd love to buy a spare if anyone knows if that's possible!

You should be able to buy a screw from stew mac or e-bay, but I'm sure the shippings gonna kill you. Honestly a trem claw screw is really just a phillips headed woodscrew. I would go to a hardware store and match something up. You can probably get the old one out with vicegrips. As for the nut it IS NOT a Graphtech. It is Ernie Balls own compensated nut. Why would you need a spare?

Hey,

Yeah I have spare screws but they all seem to be narrower. Not by a great deal, but for the sake of my satisfaction I was hoping to get one of the exact ones. It's not a pressing issue, it doesn't need anything really ding to it, but I have a bit of a thing for really heavy strings, which leads to my next point...

That's what I thought about the nut, I must have misread  Like I said I tend to go for super heavy (12-56 on my strat) strings and if I decided to try it on the JPX I'd have to file the nut out a bit. If I then wanna go back to 9-46 someday then you end up with buzzy nut.

I probably won't go up in gauge, I'm rockin the 9-46 at the moment, I can see me going to 10's but nothing more and that should need any modification. Same as with the screw, peace of mind really. You should see my spares box. :D

No truth to that at all. It is not in any way a standard nut. It is a Music Man Compensated Nut and is specific to Music Man guitars and it's made from Melamine. You can't buy a spare but if you need to replace the original one, customer service will help you out.

I don't remember the sizes and dimensions of the trem screws off hand but I think it's a standard screw, i.e. nothing very special about it. Customer Service can tell you what it is and then you can probably run out and buy a big bag of 'em in local DIY store!

And while we're on the subject of stripping screw heads, to each and every one of you...

ALWAYS USE THE CORRECT SIZE TOOL FOR THE JOB! If there is one thing worse than a stripped screw head, it's a stripped screwdriver! :D

To the 'contact customer services', I'm in the UK, lol, screw phoning the USA. I was (stupidly) hoping it was something EB would have plenty of and I could just give someone some money and get one in the post. Never mind.

Thanks for the congrats, I'm madly in love with this guitar, and I have owned loooaaads, including a standard JP6, this is truly special.

I had considered contacting Strings 'n Things, but I didn't think they'd keep little parts like claw screws :-S

I had a feeling with the nut, though I've seen compensated nuts for sale plenty if time before, I guess I just made the association and thought I might able to pick one up. No biggy, I'm pretty happy with my 9-46 at the moment.

For the record, I didn't strip the screw lol.

What's a contact email address for CS please maybe someone there can stick one in an envelope for me!

Strings and Things are the EB distributors and carry a very wide range of spares - it's a UK number 01273 440442
ask to speak to Nick (Ming on the forum) - tell him you are on the forum and see what he says

I contacted CS like I said and the dude forwarded an EMail to String 'n Things (who I've spoken to a couple of times at my old job, guy called Nigel?). They won't have got the EMail til about 7pm based on what the guy in the US said, so I probably won't hear back til tomorrow.

Goes to show eh? The Customer Service guy was very friendly and helpful, lets hope this gets sorted! :)

Update (last one probably) I Emailed John Quinn at EBMM USA who forwarded me to the UK guys and John told me if the UK folks didn't have the part he'd send me one for free which, as it happens, the UK folks don't.

A very happy ending, I'm EXTREMELY satisfied with the way this has been treated and am very grateful to Music Man's custom service department for their help - even knowing I bought the guitar used.

Another happy customer :D
