Hello everyone, I am new to this forum, but I just got my first Music Man guitar about 3 weeks ago (It's a Steve Morse Y2D in De-Purple Burst with a Floyd Rose) and I have a question that I am compelled to ask here. Has anyone employed a tremol-no on a similar guitar? I am already in love with this guitar, but the Floyd Rose is giving me serious headaches (I've been a Les Paul player for years and I'm not accustomed to it). Since I don't want to get rid of this guitar I thought I would see what everyone thinks about a tremol-no.

On a side note: I'm considering buying a fully loaded jp6, and I wonder if the tremolo is more stable on those guitars? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hey there!

Jp6 owner here, as well as a tremol-no user. I've ran into a lot of problems with the alignment of the receiver unit (it has to be perfectly straight or else it will catch when pulled upwards, and leave the guitar about an 1/8th of a step sharp), but I think it's worth it if you do enough tuning switches. The tremolo on the JP6 is pretty stable tuning wise out of the box, and shouldn't require any mods.

I learned the hard way years ago that I am a hard tail player......I will sacrifice a few tricks/options for superior tuning stability......a Floyd and a JP6 bridge are light years apart....I would recommend playing one first, but you couldn't pay me to own a guitar with a Floyd.....I prefer to play with both feet on the ground, not while balancing on a high-wire.

Thank you both for the replies. I would really like to play a JP6 before buying one, but the nearest one is a couple of states away, so the least I can do is order one and then return it if I don't like it. I'm managing with the Floyd Rose (barely), but it does seem like the JP6 bridge is more akin to a stratocaster bridge (which I can handle, I think).

If you want to completely block you tremolo, the best way is to use a wood block in the trem cavity.
Rory Gallagher was doing this with his Strat.
By the way ... where are the pics of your Morse ????

I have used a Tremol-no on a JP - in fact I had one of the first batch of units to ship out. Never had issues with mine. Easy to install. The JP trem is easier to deal with thasn a floyd but the Morse and JP models are very different so play each to see what you like.

Try first the wood block ... it's free. If it doesn't work, buy a Tremol-no ...

Thanks for the pics !

my ol faithful Ibanez RG550 has had a tremol-no on it since they first started making them, it's different in that it has a bar that screws to the block made specifically for the edge trem. I currently have 12 guitars in my arsenal, a few JP6's, a Silo incl. and have owned dozens over the past decade or so, Nothing stays in tune better than the 550. have yet to get one for the JP6's but it's on my to do list. +1 for the tremol-no
