Tremolo springs

I got my best friend a stingray guitar (I play a stingray bass). He loves it but says the trem springs are a little tight. Does anybody know if you can drop in a more vintage strat spring set, like raw vintage? Are they the same size?

you should be able to. personally, I generally remove one spring and angle the outer two toward the claw
