Off Topic Trip to Chicago

I wil attend the SAE coference in Chicago in October. As this is my first trip to Chicago or the U.S. in general I need some suggestions from my fellow U.S.-based Knuckleheads what to do in this city during the free time we will surely have!
So please, keep it coming...
Any advice is welcome! :)
 
What's your interests??and what dates??Check out the local bars buddy guy ledgends is cool if your a blues fan.House of blues is local in the towers,chicago has CRAZY architecture so thats cool just to take the riverboat tour~ and food? it's the midwest so we don't eat ANYTHING health it's all full fat and fun!if your the Pizza fan check lou malnati's or pizzeria uno ~bbq ~gale street in best ribs around may be a cab ride for ya' depending where your staying,hi class dining you can TRY to get in to the trump towers and they have a very nice place I think it's good VERY pricey ,cuz' we all know trumps living check to check!For free stuff check out the "bean" and buckingham fountain,theres tons of museums in the area a planitarium and navy pier is a good chill out place sit an the end watch live bands and drink beer and eat next to the lake it's just about damn near perfect,except i don't drink! I don't know your dates but the burbs are great 20 minute cabrides to great fun,lots of good small bars and music,let me know your dates and i can shoot ya' some attractions that week!
 
@andynpeters: The early autumn is not supposed to be that cold over there. So any serious suggestions?

@shred: I will be there from 5th to 12th of October. Interests: music, sports, sightseeing and of course shopping. Thanks so far!

I was in Chicago last year at the end of October and it was pretty cold, but the sun was shining!

Millenium Park (where the "Bean" is) has a lot of really cool sculptures and a botanical garden of some sort. Chicago is such a great city, you'll have an awesome time!
 
I was in chi town last oct. early in the month the weather was fantastic.
I'd try and see Shedd aquarium and millenium park while you're there.
Mortons Steakhouse is a nice place to meat!.
 
I'd like to try the Tomahawk Chop at Tramonto's Steak and Seafood. Also, I wouldn't mind eating at Tru.
 
I was just there on vacation about 2 weeks ago.

I recommend the Chicago Music exchange. excellent store, and they actually sell some musicman guitars. pretty nice guys in there.

the Sears tower is pretty cool if it's a clear day and your into some touristy stuff. And I really liked the Field musuem. They had some mummies and dinosaur fossils. There's also an art musuem if your into that sort of thing.

I got to see the Cubs play while we were there too but I don't they will be playing in october:D

since you are there in the fall, check out a Bears game at Soldier field(NFL) or maybe if the Gods are with them a Cubs world series game, also if you are in the Wetmont area theres a BBQ place just to the south killer stuff:)
 
OHH,how'd i forget geno's it's a city thing ~your always partial to cubs/sox ~lou's or geno's??weird philly has the same thing with the cheese steak stands ??You can check out berghoff's it's the US take of german food so you may get a giggle out of it??the bean is cool it's free ~the museum of science is cool too it's a great day killer ~art museum is there also the adler planaterium sorta' cool,it'll be cool by october so yes you'll be wanting indoor stuff,if your a shopping fan head out to woodfield mall it's one of the biggest in the US and eat at the cheesecake factory there YUMM!the bears are a cool game but being from germany it may bore you??There's a million great bars and clubs~ I live an hour out of chicago but the hot one out "here" are clearwater theater if your a big blues fan they always have great shows i don't have any shows for oct. yet but they will be adding stuff soon!
Eric sardinas and chris duarte are playing in the next month!,also house of blues is always got some show and yes the sears tower is a must do also it's like chicago's graceland!

by the way for chicago it's ROCKTOBER!!
