Does anyone (Ernie Ball Techs), have any idea of where I can buy Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil in Canada? I'd like to keep my Axis guitars the way they were when I bought them, and have been using a combination of non-waxy furniture polish (with all the natural oils and stuff ;) ) and Lemon Oil to clean and maintain my neck. However, I'd really like to get into doing the same treatments that were applied before I bought the guitars. I've read somewhere on here that Lemon oil isn't recommended for regular cleanings.

If anyone has any cleaning tips/tricks, or other maintenance info, I'd love to hear it.

THanks

I have 4 guitars with oiled necks. One of them is an EBMM/EVH and here is what works for me:

-Use a soft bristle tooth brush and Murphy's Oil Soap undiluted straight from the bottle. Scrup all the finger goo and grey stuff off then wipe off the resedue as completely as possible.
- With a rag wipe lemon oil (preferably without any yellow pigment added) onto the neck and fretboard. I use the tootbrush again to loosen up any more dirt.
-Leave the lemon oil sitting for 10 minutes or so then wipe it off. I usually wait another 12 hours or so and wipe it down several more times with a dry rag before I string it up.

this has worked well for me and these products don't leave residue behind especially if you use non colored oil. I wouldn't necessarily use products with furniture waxes in them. That can build up over time. I don't know who told you lemon oil isn't good but they were wrong by everything I've experienced and heard. The wood on these necks needs to be oiled every so often to keep from drying out. It's my understanding that the EBMM necks have a wax on them that helps keep them from drying out though.

Everybody has their own methods but this has worked well for me.

good luck.

Thanks,

The way I read that is that they tell you not to use it "too often". Is it good to use anything too often? Seriously though, I would be interested to know what they consider too often. Even then, they still recommended it's use. I use it every 2-3 months on average with no problems.

I also wonder why the dilute the Murphy's Oil Soap? I would be reluctant to add water to the mix as I wouldn't necessarily want that water soaking into my neck.

Obviously there are many ways of handling this situtation. I think the best thing to know is that there is fairly broad spectrum so you won't necessarily screw anything up by experimenting yourself.

hey guys, in my experiance the best method for me is to wash my hands before use. keeping it clean to begin with is the best way. if it gets dirty i would clean maybe 3 times a year with a little bit of lemon oil. and seal the neck with gunstock wax at most 2 times a year. i keep it in a non-smoking climate controlled area. i don't like using alot of chemicals on my guitars but maintainance is important. i also have a new axis which i haven't had to use stuff on yet and i plan on keeping it that way! LOL i wonder if that bee's wax stuff Warwick uses for their raw finish bass bodies would work good.............hmmm i wouldn't try it but i am curious.................

I agree, wash before every use but my necks still show significant amounts of grime after a couple or 3 months. It just depends on each person's body chemistry.
