If I only used one or two pedals, I would not work nearly as much as I do...
Singers & other musicians, besides guitar players, are quite savoy to sounds that guitar players use... it's very surprising...!!
Of course, in the studio, you are basically a non-entity or almost useless as a guitarist, if you don't have access to a myriad of sounds... Producers are often much more aware of available sounds then a lot of guitarists may be..
On live gigs,,,, as a sideman, I've been asked to use more reverb, more distortion (instead of just overdrive), different kinds of wah-wha sounds... etc. etc. etc..
Believe me, I've learned this overtime through the school of hard knocks ...
For awhile, all I used was a good dual channel amp and only a digital delay in the effects loop... However, this was back when I wasn't doing as much free lance work
as I'm doing now.
