My '88 SR4 is (I believe) at the end of its travel for the truss rod for straightening. I was getting buzzing at the 7th fret, according to the EB web instructions and with the help of the wonderful customer service rep, I believe it was Bobby, I loosened it. I wanted to be sure I was adjusting it correctly as I don't have the wheel, but the "bullet" on the head stock. As I was loosening it, it became very easy to turn. I just wanted to be sure that you can't loosen it to much and it comes off the nut and won't be able to re-tighten it if necessary. By the way, it did correct the "buzz" by going toward the floor on the bullet and the problem is corrected. Thanks for any help.

Thank you Strummer. Then I guess the rod is permanently attached at the body, with the rod threads sticking out at the head stock?

Thats an easy fix, I think you'd use a 5MM washer, maybe 2 of them and screw the Bullet back on and you'll have all the room you need.
