Hi guys,

should the truss rod wheel on my bongo turn smooth? The one on my Bongo doesn't. It's pretty hard to turn and it always returns a little towards it's start position when I let it go after adjusting. I doubt that it is maxed out unless it came that way from the factory. I bought the bass new and the truss rod wheel has never been turned more than 1/8 of a turn either way (almost sure never more than 1/4 turn in total).

Thanks guys and Marry Christmas to you all.

IMHO Unless you know what you are doing regarding truss rod adjustment get a pro to look at it (money well spent) if your having this problem, Adjusting the T rod is not something to be undertaken lightly, EB necks are well known for their rigidity even from extremes of humidity, I regularly take my 2001 Ray to and fro from Southern Spain (Low) to UK (Very high) and the neck relief is always spot on (Or am i just lucky?), Have a look at the EB factory tour at Premier Guitar .com,and the clip showing the tech measuring the back bow during manufacture and Sterling Ball´s comment about being the neck being tight,Unless your putting different gauge strings on all the time you really do not need to make any adjustments....That´s my opinion,

it could just be the rod you are using to adjust the truss rod is bouncing back. The truss rod itself has a big teflon washer between the end of the neck and the wheel, which is what actually presses on the end of the neck. You've got to overcome the static friction before it starts moving, and then it moves easier once you get it moving. If it's a new bass they tend to be harder to move, in my experience anyway.
