OK, so I just got a Sterling off the 'bay. The action's a little high for my taste, and I go to righty-tighty the truss wheel, and it seems to move too easily. And I haven't noticed a significant reduction in the action after a quarter, maybe even half turn.

I'm not sure exactly how the mechanics of the truss wheel work, but is there any circumstance under which something would be wrong to make the truss wheel NOT do anything?

Hmm boy. You'll have to wait for someone better at set-ups than me to chime in, but usually there is some tension when I move mine.

Where is Bull City? Is there a good shop around that could take a quick look and make sure everything is kosher?

BTW -- I saw your other thread -- gorgeous bass!

Thanks, yeah, Bull City = Durham, NC. I've got a guy in Raleigh I take my gear to, Darren Riley, but those have been my Fenders. Can someone recommend an EBMM specialist in the area?

I guess what I'm wondering is, worst case, could the truss rod be FUBAR or the wheel somehow detached? (Again, I have no idea of the mechanics of the wheel, how it actually attaches to the rod, etc.)

a trussrod is a trussrod. Your favorite tech should be able to look at it and figure out what is going on.

Customer service is very helpful as well.

Have you tried turning it until you feel the tension increase?

finally, are you turning it in the correct direction (using the right hand rule)? Just asking to be sure.

sometimes people can turn the wheel so far that nothing happens when you turn it. it is normal for a trussrod to behave this way.. its just like the nut on a bolt, you have to turn it untill the nut reaches the point where it grabs onto the material.
i would however advice you to speak to customer service first. better safe than sorry ;)
