Yes, I admit it...i am of these guys who continously pimp their BALLS  Small things only, because playing feel is perfect already...poti knobs and stuff, micro-aesthetics, if you like :p

Now it's my Silos turn, I was about to replace the Schaller chrome tuners, with black tuners. Had a quick look on the Schaller website and found out, that you can get all sorts of replacement buttons for tuners (plus any other part of the tuner head), which is brilliant  ...and I do not need to exchange the whole machine then :p

I'm now going for rosewood buttons. Has anyone of you brothers experience in changing the buttons? Is there anything I can do wrong? It seems so simple, like, just unscrew, replace and tighten again...is it just that?

I decided to replace the buttons from chrome to pearloid on my BD Luke, because I wanted them to match the color of the decal on the headstock:eek::cool: I agree with you that I don't like big pimp jobs, but when they're subtile or practical I'm OK with it. The buttons and the Schaller lockings on my SUB are the only 'modifications' on my Balls.

Can't say if it's easy or not..When the buttons arrived at the nearest Music shop the tech had them installed for me because I had to wait 6(!) weeks for the buttons to arrive. However, he fixed it in around 5 minutes so it can't be that hard..

I added pearl buttona on both of my Lukes, I had to
change something, even though there was nothing
that i COULD change. I think its a subtle upgrade that
adds a little bit of class. Its an easy swap also.

Cool! I actually added the pearloid buttons to my DD2 Luke this weekend. Takes about 5 minutes. Very easy upgrade. Also swapped out the EMG 85 for a EMG 81.

Hi there,

I swapped the acrylic buttons with chrome ones some time ago.
You just have to loose the set screw within the tuner button and then you can take it off, sticking the new ones onto the tuner, tighten the screw and you´re done. - 5 Minute Job :)

Cheers,
Swen

Would you mind telling me where you are getting your rosewood buttons?
Now you've got me wanting to tweak my ASS Rosie with Rosewood Buttons and Chrome Speed Knobs/Switch Tip.

I was actually wondering why no one of you ASS Rosie junkies didn't do that so far :D

The buttons are an genuine replacement part from Schaller. So here's where I get them from...
SCHALLER ROSEWOOD BUTTON 586150

...and here you get all the part numbers.
Buttons | Schaller-Electronic

I don't know where live, but if you're having problems to get them overseas (which is near to impossible), then let me know....we're gonna find a way :)

I put ebony buttons on my ASS and moved the ASS's pearloid buttons to my Silo, which goes well with the pearloid pickguard. Yeah it was pretty easy and didn't take long at all. One thing to watch for is that while you are turning the set screw on the button, you are also turning the tuner, which will throw your tuning out of whack, so only do one button at a time...

Actually, I was thinking about doing the same with my ASS...but remained unsure due to the silver decal....might look strange. Could you post a pic of your ASS headstock, so I can get an impression?

Here you go:

wow...that looks awesome. But your headstock has the dark burst edges, and that's why it looks so beautiful. Mine is simply Trans Purple (or Trance Purple as our drummer always says ;-), might be a different thing.

May be I should just give it a try and if I don't like it, I will sell the buttons to one of you guys here in the pond :p

Done it many times... Thing to note: do NOT screw them in too tightly, or they will break! the wood pegs are actually quite fragile.

Also, use the gold screws that come with them... They seem to be a bit smaller than the stock metal peg screws.

and also, how tight your tuners are to turn also depends on how tightly you screw in those pegs... oddly... so vary the tension to your liking.

I've always tried to opt for black hardware on my guitars, so I never really thought much about how the headstock color would mesh with black tuners/buttons. I guess I'm used to it. I think it looks good with the burst finish on the headstock, but honestly I think it would look good with any darker colored finish. Trans purple would probably look good, trans gold probably not.

I kinda like the idea with the rosewood machines, dude!

Definitely go for it! Pretty sure they're matching well with your rosewood fretboard!
