Question about tuning problem on JP7?

Hi,I recently bought used JP7 without piezo model. Here are few pictures:
10942750_409665909202552_3498025135757872957_n.jpg 10940408_409666255869184_2894316565966482126_n.jpg 10930855_409667029202440_5952916494085850615_n.jpg 10626142_409667615869048_4491438170273528864_o.jpg 10525961_409666389202504_8566542522821283821_n.jpg

First problem, guitar goes out tune every few hours and I need to re tune it.Is it normal?
This is my first Music Man guitar and expensive one also so I`m very newbie, please be patient.

Second problem is with G string,on lower frets it sound a little bit out of tune, but on higher I do not have that problem. The rest of strings sounds ok.I doubt that tuning peg is not working properly.
But i will buy a fresh set of strings for two days and test this problem again.

Is there any source where I can find out more how to properly change strings on JP7,tune and setup my guitar?
Thanks in advance.

Music Man website has a FAQ section specifically on setting up JP models here. That being said, there are a ton of threads with pics in here that cover every aspect of a full setup.

As far as tuning issues, if it's going slightly out of tune after a few HOURS of playing that sounds like a non-issue to me. I can't even begin to estimate how many bends of 1+ or more I play within a single hour of playing, let alone what percentage of that hour involves any use of the trem. If you play it for an extended period it will need retuned. It's physics.

Now, if you said it goes out of tune after a single bend or dive, that would need further inspection. Typically lubrication will resolve this, but not always. Definitely a first step.

On a side note, I see in your last pic that you have quite a few wraps around your tuning posts on a couple strings. No need for this and I believe it can be detrimental in extreme cases. Just pull the new string straight through and continue applying tension while tightening the tuner lock on the bottom.

My advice, throw a fresh set of strings on and eliminate any excess around the tuning posts. May resolve the tuning stability and even aid in the perceived bad intonation on the lower frets. If not, adjust your intonation (after bridge adjustment of course)

Perhaps a side pic of your bridge will help if you need further setup advice.

Thanks for all answers.I will try every suggestions mentioned and see if that will resolve the problems. And I`ll never make more then 2/3 wraps around tuning peg in a future.
If the problem still persist,i will make new detailed pictures.
Best regards.

Etudica is right :)
1. Lubricate the nut - I use graphite from a pencil and it does its job.
2. Check the frets - maybe frets are worn a bit and that's the reason why the G string is out of tune on the first few frets.
3. Locking tuners - they work as they should, there's no need to wrap the strings around the peg. I don't have even 1 full wrap in my JP7 and I have no problems with it.

Hi.

1.Lubricate nut,check. :)
2.Checked frets, they look super new,I put new strings and adjusting intonation fix that problem.
3.I use 2 wraps know.

It fixed almost all my problems. The only problem I know have is after using tremolo few times guitar goes out of tune very easy.

I have one more question please. After I lock nut when strings change tune do I need to unlock them when adjusting the tuning and lock again,or to leave it as it is?

Cheers.

As said above, push the new string through the hole, then pull it tight, lock, and tune. The only time you will need to touch the lock again is when changing strings.

Great guitar by the way! Carbon Blue Pearl was a favourite colour of many people here.

And welcome to the forum!

Today ball end of first string fell off due to a lot bending. So much about Ernie ball strings quality. :(

No. Used guitar breaking a new string? Most likely there is a pressure indentation/notch or a sharp edge due to years of string pressure that is now cutting or weakening the string. A new string of any brand will break in the same place (of course Cobalts or RPS slinkys are reinforced and will last longer). Examine the bridge assembly and saddles at every point that makes contact with the string. When you find the problem, use a needle file and fine sandpaper to smooth it.

Well this guitar is not very old, made in 2010 I think, and first owner did not play it very often.

I do not see any sharp edge on tremolo with bare eyes.I will examine it a little bit more.

I examine the string,it did not brake at all,it unwrapped and ball end fell off.

But thanks for let me know with possible issue of JP7.

I examined saddle a little bit, there were barely few noticeable scratches on day light.Just in case I used fine sand paper and gently smooth that tiny scratches.Know it looks as new. :)
