On my junker bass I drop, but that is the reason I want a 5er for my nice new bass. I was gonna go sterling, when I thought about the trouble I'll be giving my new bass by dropping and tuning back up all the time.

MrD that is exactly why I went to 5 string. Our worship team was working on a musical called "Lion of Judah" by Paul Wilbur. Every other song had me drop tuning to D or C - a huge hassle over and over. After 20+ years of 4-string I took the plunge, bought a 5 string and woodshedded for hours and hours. Now I find it difficult to go back to 4.

Speaking of worship songs, I had better get to bed. I play bass at church in the a.am. and I'm beat...but dreaming of bass, so it's hard to get to bed. lol

Anyway, you should check out Lion Of Judah from Ted Sandquist! Now I have that stuck in my head!! lol

It goes back to what I said before. You gotta play the right notes/parts...and whatever helps you play that is cool. That being said...I do find it sort of hard to believe that many bassists really use all 6 strings on their fancy 6 stringer. I know there are some out there who do...but some of it just seems like bass envy.

Wow. A nine banger. Dlloyd might be interested. He was inquiring about a 13 string bass guitar. A nine banger is probably a good transitional bass when switching from a 4/5 to a 13. ;)

I'm nearly decided on a 13 string, fanned fret, headless bass.

That'd be strung G#, C#, F#, B, E, A, D, G, C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab

It'd have a 38" scale for that low G#, going to a 22" scale on the high G#. Body wood is either going to be pine or balsa.

And it's going to have a purple to orange sparkleburst finish.

I'm going to play it with funk fingers on both hands to aid with the reach.

lol I'ld pay to watch you play! It sound out of this world and out of control. If you're serious, well good luck to ya.
How would you even use funk fingers on the fretting hand?
