I recently decided to swap necks on the Billy bass and Moby. It seemed to make more sense to have fretted basses with different pickup configurations and a fretless with the HSp setup.

I think I like the sound of the neck single coil with the piezos over the sound of the HHp for fretless.

The Billy bass HHp as a fretted with Cobalts is, of course, the Mack Daddy of tone.

Can't wait to get it on a gig like this. Practice tomorrow, at least.

HHp fretted, the Mack Daddy of Tone! Absolutely agree! And IIRC, Big Poppa himself had only the best to say about the HSp fretless combo. Good moves!

Interesting, looks pretty cool!! No issues with changing out necks, etc....?

This is the third or fourth time I've swapped the necks on these two basses--my original Bongos. Even with all of the refinishing, both basses have nice tight neck pockets, but not so tight that I'm worried about the finish cracking. Both necks have factory installed shims, too. So, only a little tweak is required, and I'm good to go.

I am a big fan of the single coil with piezo, for both fretted and fretless. It's nice to have that setup in both configurations, again.

I think Moby looks nice with the vintage gloss neck and the creme strap, too. :D

I love the cigar leaf finish...looks so chocolatey.

I told Pat Wilkins that I wanted it to look like it lived in the chimney of a smokey bar for about 30 years. I think he succeeded. You can still see what grain it has through the finish, too.

Very cool.

Thanks.
