Dave Carrol the guy who wrote the you tube hit 'United Breaks Guitars" the song he wrote about the destruction of his guitar. Is speaking in front of the United States Congress on the rights of musicians to have their instruments treated with respect and care, the song had over 5 million views and sparked an outcry of people from all over the world who have had their valued items broken by careless bagage handlers.

here is the news story:

CBC.ca Video

Well, United Airlines succeed its advertisement campaign ! These companies pay big money in order to have advertisement and with just a song, they lose everything :D
Well done Dave Carroll !

I've watched helplessly from a passenger seat as my Martin D35 was thrown just like that into the cargo bay, flying to a gig. I was so mad I could spit.

Good on 'em for this tune.

that's good and all, but it's like a Saturday Night Live bit, it goes on for about 2 minutes too long. We get the point dude, they broke your guitar. File a claim.

And that's just it. He did file a claim, and went all the way up United's chain of command. They flat out told him no. They broke it, but they didn't accept any liability for the damages. The song/video was his last attempt to get through.

This is freakin' awesome. I hope something comes of it. Having been a victim of airline theft (on the way to the 2005 EBMM Open House of all times), I'm sick and tired of airlines thinking they can put up a stupid sign saying they aren't liable and then do whatever they want with your stuff. More power to Dave...

Good point EVH5150 i don't think lefty guitar blue watched the news clip i posted...The song is the perfect length to describe the situation in a funny and well done manner typicaly Canadian in its roundabout way of confrontation to get a point across in a humourus way.And i am proud that Dave Carrol is well spoken on this issue and not verbose or comming across as arrogant in his manner.

The other issue is that passengers cannot leave a plane once on board and people have had to sit for up tp 14 hours on the tarmack due to FAA rules...some have even gone into diabetic shock and still were not allowed off the plane....these issues have to be addressed along with careless handling of our beloved Guitars.Thank god it wasn't a Music man guitar ....that would have been much worse.

It was very well done and you're right, I wasn't thinking of all that stuff. I was just having a sh*tty day yesterday and i shouldn't post when angry. I hope Taylor sends him a guitar.

Dave said he wold write three songs about the United saga... and No.2 is now out... very different to No.1 (and not quite the same impact), but still great fun. Looking forward to No.3!

Looks like they had a ball making the video. Look out for the very end, where the United van runs over his guitar :D

Unfortunately, I guess it's not really worth much if the guy just 'made out' because of it. In the end, it's just a payoff to shut up. I was hoping it might have been the beginning of a ground swell to force some real change in the airline industry...

I know....I'm a dreamer.

I think this guy we'll always get new Taylor guitars for free by now...

By the way, I think the first song is really brilliant, even the second's not that bad too q
