Hey,I've only been reading forum chatter for a few months everyone has the favorite guitar, mostly petrucci's or silo's~ some lukes~ and some axiseven the AL's ,I see very few people comment on the steve morse models??Are they the "stepchild" of the line up??i own several axis and petrucci's and WAS considering a y2d model what do other people think about them ??MOSTLY opinions from owners, what's the pro and cons of it??I play mostly r&r and metal but sometimes blues gets in,is this guitar sound wise like the other models ??I REALLY am interested in one but want true life owners to give the real deal opinions!I know this is the EBMM forum and I know they rock but ANY guitar has quirks about them,EBMM just a LOT less!:D

Hey- them's fighting words! ;)

For some reason certain models are in vogue periodically. The AL was the best kept secret for a while. When the Y2D came out it was all Y2D talk, etc.

I have an old Morse and Y2D and they're my favourites (have to say that quietly or the others will hear, haha).

What do you need to know? They're completely versatile- you can go from country to rock in the flick of a switch. Pretty much have every tone I need to get out of a guitar, and the new neck profile can't be beat. Fits me like a glove.

I DIDN'T mean any disrespect,Sorry if yourany of you ARE a stepchild! it's just the y2d dont seem to get much coverage, are the comprable to the axis or petrucci's?i know they don't have peizo but I've read some pretty unstellar reviews about the pickups and being a HUGE dimarzio fan I 've bought other guitars knowing going into it the pickups must go but are these respectable from the factory??Or do i need to BUDGET to change them??

NO, keep the original pickups. They are great the way they are, you just have to leave them where the factory sets them (somewhat far from the strings).

If anything, I think the Subs are the stepchild. They never seem to get the mention that they deserve... They are truly a great instrument ;)

The Morse models are awesome. Ive been on the verge of buying an original Morse a few times and almost just got a y2d. I'm mostly a bassist so i resisted and got another bass but these guitars are really fun to play cuz they can do everything.

theyre both exactly how Steve Morse wants them... pickups and all. so the pickups are "Morse approved" so you can rest assured that they're great. Also, MM doesn't cheap out on their instruments. The MM stuff always has awesome components.

theyre both amazing guitars

The cool thing about ALL Musicman guitars is that they are all have the FAMILY genes (as it were), whether adopted, step , etc. . . . These guitars have a distinct "theme" that runs throughout the entire line-up (you can tell that they are all brothers and sisters). The neck and headstock are comparable to say a BMW grille (which have the same characteristics no matter what car it is on.) Gotta love em all!!!!!!!

I think the Y2D is fantastic. I'm not big on the original Morse, though. I find other necks more to my liking: the Silo Spec, the JP, the 20th Ann Silo in particular. Seeing SM with Deep Purple tonight really had me GASin' for a Y2D.
