A few years back I bought a JP6 in Mystic Dream. My stupidity allowed me to buy it without waiting for one that was fully loaded. I'm wondering how expensive it would be to "upgrade" this one so that it at least has the piezo system in it. Would it be worth the cost? Or would I be better off saving up and getting a fully loaded JP7?

I ended up getting a steal of a deal on a Samick 7-string so I really don't need a JP7, but if I was going to buy a new one, I'd really want the best.

Oh, my JP6 has been played so much since I bought it (Thanks EBMM!!!) that it is really needing a fret job already. How much can I expect to spend on that?

Thanks in advance for all the help.

A) From the FAQ, EBMM doesn't put Piezos in after the guitar has been built. It's not worth the ridiculous amount of time/effort. (I assume that's what you meant by 'upgrade')

B) Sell it. Get a JP7. :D

C) Dunno.

I know this isn't much help, but meh...;)

Buy a Boss Acoustic Simulator same sound and much cheaper than trying to fit a piezo.

Your local guitar shop will be able to do a fret dress and will tell you how much. about £50 in the UK, but I don't know where you live.

It really depends on the amp. I've heard the piezo through some amps, and it didn't sound very acoustic. However, I have heard it sound like nylon string through others. It may depend on settings. It may just be the character of the amp. I'm not really sure. I'd love to hear what it sounds like through an acoustic amp.

but does the battery discharge even if you play with the normal pickups? i thought the electric circuit is cut when you switch to electromagnetics.

(sorry for OT)

the battery will only discharge if you are plugged into the top output

if you are just going to play with your magnetics
use the bottom output and the battery is unaffected

also
if your battery if flat
the magnetics will not work out of the top output

I used to have one of these pedals, and in the context of the mix nobody would know the difference!

What Tim said is true. Before I got my JP6 I had found one in Newcastle but it had no piezo. I asked the guy at the store if I could get one retrofitted to which he said yes but it would cost alot. So I decided to order a new one with peizo. It's nice to have it there as an option and I have used it a few times, But can and could without it. But, it's always there should I want to use it. Retrofitting a piezo (and I know there are one or two here who have), from what I can tell, never really ahcieves the quality of the piezo you get preinstalled by EBMM. From what reviews I;ve read and so on, I gather that the Piezo used by EBMM is pretty much top notch for sound quality. I read a psot here ages ago about a guy who had A/B'd his JP6 with an electro acoustice for some of his students. They could only hear but not see the guitars and couldnt tell which was which.

I'm sure years ago if you bought an Ovation, the amp'd sound was a piezo. You weren't really getting and acoustic sound, just a bridge piezo.

Anyhoo, I'm digressing. An acoustic simulator would be the way to go. Alot cheaper than installing a Piezo and could tide you over till you find yourself in a position to get an EBMM with one already installed.

Just my 2p's worth. (which is around 4c I think!:p)
