I work in a body shop.

We get parts in boxes with bubble wrap all day long. Supplies for shipping items is not a problem most of the time.

The one exception to that is cabs. I usually have a hard time finding a box to fit.

I stopped using UPS a long time ago. FedEx does everything cheaper, and I just shipped a bass, insured for $1700, from GA to NE and it got there in two days for $22.

My guitar player shipped a guitar using UPS. It was in the hardshell case, AND double boxed. UPS still managed to snap the neck off of the thing. First year Gibson ES335 Reissue. Poof. He finally had to go to UPS headquarters in Atlanta to get his check for $3000.

After shipping something along the lines of 18-19 basses, and other stuff like amps, cabs, etc, I've never had a problem with UPS or Fedex. Actually, I've shipped a couple of basses via USPS too, and that was also a breeze.

All three basses I've shipped to Europe have been by USPS. Not a bad option.

For really heavy items like cabs, I usually just box them up and drop them off at the DFW airport FedEx facility. Much cheaper and friendlier than UPS for heavy items.

shipping UPS

I work at a electronics company and UPS is the worst by far for recieving damaged goods .
Their track record is such that when shipments come in and they are damaged I do not recieve them, I have a digital camera that I keep in shipping . Take photos of the damaged goods (namely the box) as you cannot open until you recieve it .
Do not sign for reciept of the goods and send it back to the supplier and leave them to deal with UPS...sorry but this system works.
And when the sender gets UPS knocking on their door with something that is supposed to resemble the original shipment , the sender refuses and does a insurance claim and collect from UPS .
Get the photos from the potential buyer showing how the shipment was damaged and refused .
you can take photos before you have to sign for the product, I have done this many times and its only been with UPS
If you have to get a lawyer involved and sue them , they will usually settle and pay out ...make sure the shipment goes insured , so you can claim full value of the goods , if you do not insure , you will get like about 100 dollars (read the fine print ..user agreement )
