Hey,

I'm about to close a deal on some new DiMarzio pickups (Transitions) for my Majesty AD 6-string.
I've wanted to replace the Illuminators for some time now. But now I'm a bit confused on which pups to order. The bridge should be a F-spaced pu. But the neck I'm not sure anymore. I measured the pup and it gives me 48mm, so I'd say it should be a standard spacing. The distibutor here in the Netherlands claims however I should take a F-spaced in the neck as well.
Anybody have a opinion on the matter? Thanks in advance.

SOLVED!!

Its always F spaced bridge and standard spaced neck..... on every 2H trem guitar, every brand.

I always thought neck pickups aren't f spaced. According to your measurements it should be standard, so I'd go with that.

By the way, a Majesty in the Netherlands? Excellent, must only be a few if not one!

Thanks for the replies guys! Problem solved. It was just confusing that the guys in the store, as well as the distibutor (who specifically asked a luthier!) told me to go with a F-spaced neck. And yes, they exist. At one store they offered the Transition neck F-spaced and the bridge standard spaced :)
I actually followed my instinct on this and went with the standard spaced neck Transition.
Glad your replies confirmed it.
But having a standard spaced pup in the neck is NOT common practice it would seem. Since the music shop near me told me that when replacing pu's on floating trem based guitars, they always (!) put in F-spaced neck pu's. Which is pretty odd, considering you only have to take a ruler and see that it's not the right spacing.

I'm not sure common practice is all that common, and for the neck pickup it really doesn't matter. Usually, when in doubt I just look at the DiMarzio FAQ and do what they say...

Frequently Asked Questions | DiMarzio

...but, interestingly, Seymour Duncan talk about Trembucker (which is F-spaced) vs Humbucker (which is regular) and they say the spacing issue only applies to bridge pickups. So, neck pickups should always be standard-spaced...

http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/faq/frequently-asked/everything-else/what_does_tremb/

But of course all single coils are F-spaced. Nobody cares at all that the strings are inside the pole pieces of the neck pickup and it makes no difference. Obviously an F-spaced humbucker will work perfectly well in the neck position too.

So there ya go. Clear as mud! :)

Yep..very clear:)
Never thought about singles though. Knew they were the same size, but still. I owned a Trembucker once. Back in the day when I couldn't tell a good tone from a horses ass. But a completely different design. Strings in the middle of 2 pole-pieces. Although I don't particularly like the aesthetics of twin blades, I guess it's the most efficient approach to capturing tone.

But as far as the non f-spaced neck pickup, I do think it doesn't matter all that much. And looking at my Majesty I clearly see both E-strings perfectly aligned with their respective pole-pieces.....NOT :)
But call me crazy, I'd like my axe to be as authentic as it was when it came out of the factory. I just ordered a couple of EB Strap-locks to go with the guitar and I really had a problem choosing a color. At long last I figured nickel would be least ugly. And so we struggle on ;-)

No idea when I eventually will be able to have those Transitions installed, but when I do I'll make sure I'll post my finding. VERY curious on the end result!
O...somebody here gave me a tip to contact AJ at EBMM in regards to more information on how those circuitry boards work. Did send him an email, but no reply. Same as the previous times I send it to EBMM. Must be something they like to keep a secret or something? :-S

Proprietary information, perhaps? Also, it's NAMM, they've been flat out preparing for, there now so not at the office, and when they get back there may be a backlog of more pressing Customer Service issues to deal with so, yeah, maybe don't hold your breath just yet. :) I'd try again in a few weeks.
