Hello all! I recently picked up a 2010 Bongo, which I am really digging.

I've noticed a bit of a hum, static noise, coming from the bridge pickup only. I can sort of dial it out with the EQ, but that defeats the purpose of having an EQ.

Anyway, I noticed some metal shavings on the pickup poles (I assume from some ill-advised person using steel wool to clean the frets without masking off the rest of the guitar...). I vacuumed and blew them out as best as I could, without taking the pickups out and attempting to remove the plastic covers.

The electronics in the control cavity appear to be OK, and the pots are not scratchy at all when operating them.

Any other suggestions to try?

I have a 2019 Bongo 6 that seems to have the same issue. Was there ever any response to this question?

Hi dwindhausen. Lots of views on this post, but no suggestions yet... maybe someone new will see this now and be able to offer a response!

Hi. I had similar with my HH Stingray, metal flakes from wire wool or something of the like. (On it when I brought it used)
Id suggest
removing the pickup and cleaning it up properly as a good start. I had success using gaffer/duck tape to remove the metal flakes and blue-tack for the hard to reach parts.
I’d start there.

Thanks danny-79. Do you recall if the pickup covers were easy to pop off, or are they glued in place? I got all the steel wool I could off the exposed pole pieces, but can imagine that there may be some bits still hiding underneath the covers.

They are factory glued on my HH so not removable so hopefully no contamination underneath
