The back of the neck on my used SR5 was a bit grungy and rough so I followed the FAQ and used 1500 grit sandpaper on the oiled/waxed section of the neck.

Smooth as glass and clean. BIG BIG improvement

As my local store didn't have the gunstock wax (but did have the truoil) I'm waiting for it to arrive from Birchwood Casey.

I put one light coat (let it sit for 5 minutes only) of the truoil last night and wiped it down thouroughly. Looks great.

Since the wax won''t come for a day or two I'm wondering if I should do another treatment or two with the truoil for more protection/stain.

I know the stuff can be sticky if you don't allow it to dry. However, since I make sure it was only on for 5 minutes its a pretty light coating. Plus I'm hanging the bass and it will be 24 hours before I can apply another coat.

Thanks for the help

I looked at the FAQ again (I had a copy of the old one) and it looks like sanding isn't recommended any longer

In any case, my question still stands.

Is there any benefit to multiple lite coats (<5 min on before wiping off and letting dry for 24hours ) of truoil?

Thanks

Multiple coats will last longer and feel thicker. Some might see that as a benefit. I did that once to a Stingray 5 and liked it, myself.

Well I've learned the error of my ways after 3 light coats of truoil - I was not as smooth to the touch.

I ended up redoing it. I think the key is getting the feel of a smooth bare sanded neck yet having some protection. To get the protection without the sticky resistance of a thick coating, you have to use a thin coating. Hence the 5 minute time for the tru oil

Feels perfect now.
