using logic7 guitaramp pro automation

I used to use my sequencer to change my guitar sounds via midi in a live situation. Do you use this setup live Tristan?

What setup do you use to record at home/studio....I am thinking of getting an Apple Imac or would you recomened something else to run logicpro 7.....is it compatible with garage band or has logic pro replaced garage band? What else would I need to connect the guitar to the computer? Do you use an amp or model the amps on the logic pro? From the llok of the png image you link to above i think you are more than likely using amp modelling software on the apple.

Logic is mac only and Apple's high end audio program. If you have the money and are a mac user why not? Logic can be a steep learning curve if you're not across those types of programs. I'm a hard core Pro Tools user myself and highly recommend that. Both the HD and LE versions come with hardware so you can connect your guitar straight away. No latency probs here ;)

I have Logic Pro 7 as well. What interface do you use with it? I tried using it as a real time practice amp. I'm not too crazy about the sounds out of it. Anyways how do you deal with the latency issue?

I take it then the mac has problems/issues connecting a guitar/instrument to the computer? Really want a new Mac but I've been a PC user since the word dot....wheres the cheapest place to get Pro Tools.....is there a shareware version?
 
I recommend an Imac, don't put your money in a quad, there's no need to use it home...I'll buy an Imac for myself in a couple of weeks...

if you work alone, you don't have to buy an external sound device...the core audio just makes it by itself...nothing to tune with the latency, the system does it for you...

you juste have to buy an Istudiolink by monstercable and plug in into the mac...

logic is the pro application for music, but it works with garage band...you can open your garage band project in logic audio, and it manages the garage band loops by itself...

I don't use nothing else than the mac and the Istudiolink to make those kind of things...

apple stuff just rules for the music...

don't try to go into pro tools , there's no need to use it if you don't have to record and edit 35679 tracks at the same time, and making midi parts with it is very complex (that's why most of studio use logic for midi parts, and a tdm brige to put it in pro tools and work on the audio stuff...)

I' ve been a PC user for many many years too...I took me 3 days to handle the mac , and being to the apple demo for 3 hours of show in front of pro users...

I'm not gifted with computers...Mac osX is a hundred times easier & better than windows...

according to me, most of home player could work with a mac mini & garage band, you don't even have to buy logic...

as we say in french

"l'essayer c'est l'adopter" trying it is getting it...;)

this is not a spam...I don't work for apple, they just pay me when they need me for a demo but I don't have a contrat or free computers...but they offered me logic pro 7, that's true...

I had SO MUCH problems with PC, and working is so easier with the mac...that's what I want to say...:)

Thanks Tristan! Very helpful....I heard Pro Tools was not so good for first time users so I'll investiagte the Mac instead a bit more...

Can I have your baseball cap? And your Luke in Rad Red....I'm looking ofr a Rad Red but can't find one anywhere!

Are you kidding me? I guarantee you that if you've never used a recording program Logic will not be an easy road. Every serious studio has Pro Tools in some form or another in it. You will get excellent results with any high end program but if you are a beginner, be cautious. Also if you have a mac and a pc you will not be able to run logic on both. Make sure you get the right type of interface if you go the logic route. Pro Tools is one of the easiest programs to use. If you go the LE option it's a case of connecting a fire wire cable and loading the software. Adobe Audition and Sonar are worth a look too (if I haven't been confusing enough). Recording is a great skill to learn and something I would highly recommend to anyone.

Start with Garageband 2.0 m8. Garageband is a stripped out Logic with a friendlier look and easier to use options (though less of them as a result). Logic is Garageband's big brother. Not cheap for the Pro version but all the software you could ever need....until Logic 8. My advice regarding hardware is to wait until Logic has been made native to the new Intel powered Macs. Software that is pre Intel tends to run slower on the new machines as they were set up for the IBM Power PC chips. Once its running native to the Intel machines you can have everything you need in one box. You can run the new Intel Macs using MacOS X and Windows XP. It automatically boots up in OS X but you simply hold down a key to boot into Windows instead (though you have to buy and install Windows as it doesn't come with the machine). I'll be moving to the new Mac once most of the software is more stable on it. It really is the ultimate hardware solution.

Garageband comes free with most Macs these days too, or can be bought as part of the iLife package (£99). Its an excellent drag, drop and chop package and there are plenty of sample loops and virtual instruments to play with. The files will happily transfer into Logic once you decide to upgrade.

Reagrding latency, you'll always have that issue I'm afraid. It depends on your computers CPU, memory and how many effects your using on the dry signal. The more you make the computer work, the more latency you'll get. If latency is an issue then use a wet signal instead, with a POD or GT8 (etc) as the effects unit. That takes more pressure off the computer, but also means you can't alter effects after its recorded.
 
That's a great clip tristan. My favorite one of yours so far. Makes me want a Silo Special! :D Hmm...maybe I should sell my F3nder.
