I am loving it, you guys just don't know how much I am bonding with this bass, this is so good that every days that goes by I am more and more astonished by the excellent workmanship that went into it. Playing it has become second nature, the whole fretboard and body shape feels perfectly natural to get on with.

By a peculiar succession of unfortunate events, I am now in a position to arrange some gigs from the end of Feb onwards, this is because my good friend Tony (the guitar player) has been doing a small stretch at Her Majesty The Queen facilities since last Sept, for some driving related offences, apparently cops didn't appreciate him doing 160mph on his Yamaha R1, unfortunately he is the one who owns our practising studio, so when he comes out next month we are going to get the rest of the boys together and work on some more material, I told him a couple of cover of "Jailhouse Rock" (zztop style) and "I fought the law" (the clash) are mandatory. He has been given a 2 years driving ban, which couldn't be worst for him since he is a London Black Cab driver and strangely a graphic art designer by trade, so he is pretty much stuffed with the driving gig, but at least he can do with the other trade without involving driving. So no more excuses for him not to be able to play!

I will of course be giving my new 25th some serious gig testing. Can't wait

+1 on your 25th thoughts, I did a pretty big selloff but I wound up with 2 25th's and it's like having a multitude of basses. The MM bar just keeps going up, just an amazing company.

Two months later...

Well time certainly flies when you are having fun, doesn't it?

It has been now two months since I have received delivery of my 25th Anniversary bass and already I have grown very attached to it because it plays so well! It's just perfect in every way, the neck and fretboard are extremely comfortable, the arm contour really helps on extended use, and last but not least, with so many sound options, every time you plug it in you find a new nuance it's like a new bass all over again.

I've got to say though, I am also blessed by the fact that the sound comes out so good out of the Mark Bass amp, the two together seem like they were made for each other, either that or the Mark Bass amps really are THE BEST of the bunch.

In these 2 first months of ownership I have also learnt to appreciate a noticable difference between the 25th and my other basses and that is thanks to the resonance or sustain that the "mahogany tone block" (not the body chambering cause apparently there isn't any in the basses) gives. At first I didn't notice it that much but with time when switching between the 25th and the Bongo or the Stingray you defintately can tell the difference, with notes ringing a lot longer and the increased deep clarity of the mids. I am sure this is something the other owners might have noticed too, safe to say this is my most priced and valuble instrument in my possession and I feel really glad I made all those sacrifices to get it. I love all my basses even the non EB I have but this one is the ULTIMATE!

Yep, I believe you are correct. No chambering in the bass. But, it does have the mahogany tone block.

Strange! I thought there was. In that case...

a) this makes my last post look very silly and...

b) the extra resonance is then due to the mahogany tone block, I've never had an instrument with it.

I've just read this from the Music Man website:

No need to feel embarrassed. The tone block makes a HUGE difference in the tone. I have the same tone block in my 20th, and I love playing her unplugged just to hear that sweet tone ring.

Regarding maghogany.... my best "ringing" EBMM's are:
1.) StingRay 4 30th Anniversary (mahogany body)
2.) StingRay 4 Ebony Edition (mahogany body)
3.) 25th Annversary Bass (mahogany tone block)


Out of these, the 25th has probably the most balanced tone.

A close match is the 20th Anniversary StingRay (ash with maple top and maple neck). There's something about mahogany and tone wood mixes well done.
