Check this out. The photo belongs to GW Basses. They did the work on the bass. What a great combination of wood grain, gold hardware and white pearloid pickguard.

I'm not a four string guy, but this is one that i'd love to own myself.

You can check out the photos of the refurb here. Scroll down and look for the photo of the bass on the left side of the page.

Mmmm normally I'm not a fan of natural basses but I like this actually.

The bridge does look kind of goofy and I really don't dig the thumbrest.
Takes the flow out of the instrument.

I love those bridges, but not the plate underneath. Why the plate, I wonder???
Otherwise, it's pretty.

The plate was to cover the holes from the original bridge. Read the story in the link. I'm not really into gold but the guy did a good job. The best thing he did was not to drill any new holes or mess with the electronics so it could always be put back to original specs.....

I'm not a big fan of mods, but that looks classy. And it can be reverted to original. Great work.

I flat out don't like the bridge mod as it looks pretty "makeshift" to me. Otherwise it appears to have been worked on by someone with some skill.

AFAIK, in from the mid 90's on to a couple of years ago, different woods were used below different finishes. According to my 1996 catalogue, the following combinations were used:

Poplar: Black, Blue Burst (Steve Morse), Translucent Teal, Peal-Blue

Alder: Translucent Red, Pearl Red, Pearl Blue, Pearl Green, Pearl Purple

Ash: Sunburst (now called Honeyburst), Natural Velvet, 3 Tone Sunburst, Translucent Pink Burst (Albert Lee)
