Mr. Wooten was in town today. I didn't know it. But when I went to pickup my new Sterling 5 at the House of Guitars I ended up in the middle of a free clinic by him. To say he is awesome it an under statement!!!! Answered every bodies questions and played some with demos. Couldn't stay for the whole clinic but what I got was awesome!!!! :D

He did a clinic on the campus where I work the day of his show (also on campus). It was packed! My friend runs the theater department and got me & my bass playing buddy seats right next to Victor. At one point he asked if someone would come up and play so he could teach them a timing exercise. I was too afraid to make an ass of myself, but now I kick myself for not taking the opportunity to play Victor Wooten's bass! I ended up getting an autographed poster. I also met him one other time and got a picture with him. Great guy, very nice and willing to help other bass players get better.

That was my impression from his answering questions and also posing questions and asking for honest answers. A couple of people gave "joke" answers and he called them on it. He was great!!!

Ah... I love the chaos that is the House of Guitars (just wish they carried more EBMM stuff). You never know who you will run into in there. About 5 years back I ran into YES (all of them)... that was a good time.

Victor is awesome. I'm not a fan of his "solos" but I keep double thumping in my bag of tricks.

On of the best moments at the clinic was a question from the gathered group. The guy asked if Victor would play his bass how would it sound? Victor said this is how a bass sounds, he put his microphone down to the bass. With out touching it, there was complete silence. After about 30 seconds he said that is how a bass sounds. If I were to play your bass it would sound like me. When you play your bass, it sounds like you. It's all in the hands, intent, and spirit of the player. It is something we all know, but nice to be reminded of.

I think he is an amazing player and a wonderful teacher. Some of the stuff he does with timing is great.

I bought his last cd but I can't listen to more than 2 songs in a row.
For me his teaching and fleck stuff is bass history I just can't get into his solo stuff.

A picture from the House of Guitars. Took this with my cell phone at a distance. Sorry for the quality. It was really crowded, and for those that are not familiar with the HOG it's all cases and 1000's of guitars. I included an attachment for the picture. I hope this works.

That is great!
I watched one of his clinics like 5 years ago, it was amazing.
