Vinnie Moore pickups

Does anyone know if Vinnie Moore uses the stock pickups in his Silo? I was just listening to The Maze, which I hadn't had out in awhile, and his tone is just amazing. I definitely don't think he gets the notoriety that he deserves in the guitar community.

Was that not an Ibanez on that album?

I've met the man, great guy awesome player.
Don't really care for him playing with UFO now though - i'm not much of a UFO fan to be brutally honest.

I don't think it was an Ibanez on that album, although I do know he used to be an Ibanez endorser earlier in his career. A couple of clues would be the CD jacket that shows him playing an Axis, and the Silo headstock image on the actual CD.

I love all the earlier Ibanez stuff too. To be honest his tone has been pretty consistant on all the albums. It just goes to show that the tone comes from the fingers. I was just curious about the pickups.

I remember him mentioning that he swaps the pickups when I saw him at Clinic but I don't know if thats a recent thing.
Don't think he touches the axis's any more though.

Bridge

I use a Floyd Bridge. My main guitar is Purple (the purple ones sound a little sweeter). I use maple fret boards but like rosewood too. Using 3 DiMarzios - a Sonnicaster in the bridge - and dp181's in neck and middle. For years I thought I was using a Tone Zone but I recently send my pickup into Steve at DiMarzio and found out it is a custom wound that he calls a sonnicaster. I dunno if you can order it or not. The 181's are likelyto change soon as I am doing some experimenting. The body wood is alder - I think anyway. I used to be real concerned with all the details but find that now I don't pay much attention to this stuff. I don't even remember the guages of all my strings without looking.

2) What is it about the silos that makes them attractive to you?

I like the body size, neck size, and sound.

3) Have you done any custom things to make them yours? (Hot rodding)

Different pickups than the stock model. Replaced the frets with 6100's. That's about it.

4) What is you latest release where we can buy some tunes of you shredding a silo?

The new UFO DVD "Showtime" just came out. It is a LIVE show from Germany and there is also a 2nd disc with lots of bonus material. (extra performances with a string quartet, interviews...etc) I am recording a new solo CD right now and am also writing tunes for a new UFO CD that we will record in March/April. So there should be 2 new things out there later this year.

As far as I can remember from a workshop I made with Vinnie, he had some dual blade Dimarzios in the middle and neck position of his Silo. But anyway, that's a while ago...
