Were to start ?? Sometime early 80’s a friend of mine who owns a music store in the Chicago land area picked up a Cutlass 2 from the NAM show . At the time he said there was only three of them and it was a proto type . I loved it from the start . Although I did have some problems… first the paint started to come off the back or become discolored it was white ,Musicman sent me a new body ( I was on the road at the time) Black this time . Second don’t travel with you graphite neck in the trunk of your car in the southern heat . The neck warped , here’s were the real problem come up … Ernie Ball just took over Musicman and although Ernie Ball did replace the neck... it took a little time . I did get great service and have no complaints .So now I am looking for a serial number and can’t find one on the bass or (believe it or not ) the warranty card . Does anyone know were it might be ? Also I should think this bass has a unique value , even though it has been rode hard and put away wet . Thanks for any help

I found the ser # it's C003343

I sent two email's to that address . One came back ,the other one I'm not sure about anyway heres some more info .

June 1983 Chicago summer NAMM show . Another bit of trivia I remember that one of the prototypes was given to the group Alabama, I can't recall who had the second but I had the third prototype. From that show.

so you are saying that you got a replacment body and neck for the same bass? Cool bass though those early graphite necks didn't have a truss rod to help...I love the deep sabre tones!!!

As I sit here and think about it (25 years ago) it was the neck first , then the body about three -six months later . But yes they replaced everything. Keep in mind in 1983 this bass was big bucks . I had a Jass bass and a P bass and both of them didn't cost as much as the Cutlass . Worth every penny !! Sounds as good today as 1983 . But it needs a refinish and some new hardware.. mute pads are melted , pg screws need to be replaced . I can't say enought good things about it . It's in a class of it's own
