This is just a comment: I bought SR4 classic the other day in GC in Sugar Land, Tx. It was impulsive buy. Ever since, I am waiting and waiting for bad feelings to surface and guilt to overwhelm me, but no! On a contrary, the more I touch it, the more I play it I feel better and better. Ok, enough with this. I am really, really disappointed that such a beautiful bass with such genuine vintage feel and “old days” flare comes in a regular, black plastic flightcase. I wished that someone in San Luis Obispo felt the same way I did, and put it in a vintage, “classic”, tweedy case, as it had happened with some anniversary basses. I would have gladly paid few dollars more…

If you'd gladly pay a few dollars more, why not simply buy a tweed case for it?

I don't use cases, so I don't ever want to pay more for a fancier case.

...because this is not it, and you are missing the point.

Also that plain black plastic case, is not a flight case.. Only check that in on an airplane if you want to destroy your beautiful guitar.

What point am I missing? You want a tweed case. To keep an entirely different type of case in stock to cover any Classic basses that might, or might not, be sold creates another warehouse issue that has to be dealt with. It lowers the number of standard cases being bought in bulk, thus raising the per case price. I love the red and blue faux leather cases that came with limited editions. But, limited editions are just that--limited. It's a lot easier to do funky cases if you have a finite ordering window.

So, it's not a matter of "someone in SLO feeling the same way" about flair. It's simply the logistics of offering yet ANOTHER new instrument and weighing the cost vs return in stocking an entirely different kind of case for models that probably don't sell even remotely as well as the other models.

And, you also said that you'd have gladly paid more for one. A lot of people feel differently and don't want to pay more for an instrument because of a fancier case that will never get used. So, a fancier case and higher price might have resulted in fewer people deciding to get the Classic in the first place.

So, I didn't miss the point. Unless you simply wanted everyone who responded to tell you that you were right....I simply stated that I wouldn't "gladly pay more" for a fancy case. And, I don't think it's realistic to expect MM to keep tweed cases in stock as an upgrade option for instruments.

So, you have a couple of options--buy a tweed case and sell the one you have. Wax poetically on the internet about wanting a tweed case. But, only one of those options will actually result in a tweed case for your instrument. No one who sees the bass in the case will know that it didn't come with it.

Oh, and make with the pics of the Classic. I'm currently babysitting a Coral Red SR5. :D

Show numph !

When I bought my 30th Anniv SR4 it automatically
came with a veddy spezial two-tone tolex case that
I really didn't need or want. Upon arriving home, I
noticed that the receipt showed the case seperately
... at $175 ! ! ! Next day, I simply went back to GC
and presented the case and my receipt, stating that
the bass was a keeper, but that I already have way
too many MM bass cases [z'drooth].

I don't really remember what I did with that $175
refund, but I know for sure I spent it on something
more worthwhile than a two-tone tolex box to lean
up in some corner somewhere ....

Okay, I realize this is about an Anniversary model
and not a Classic ... you know, just some gaudy red
player ax ... even has a freaking 3-band 4krissake.
But you can figger from the above how if the Classic
came with a Classic Case, tweed ... not tolex, $175
wouldn't quite cover the tab.

After giving it a serious thought - you're probably right! Keep on babysitting, I'll do my waxing :)

Sell the plastic case and buy a tweed case, can't be that much difference. I had a tweed one once but my bass fit in loosely let the bass bounce around, it looked cool though. I use gigbags now, I wouldn't mind a tweed gigbag.

This is all I'm saying.

I would also love a nice tweed gigbag. I've got a cheapie in my son's closet, but he's sleeping so I can't snap a pic.

I totally get what the OP is saying, even if he thinks I'm babysitting. I'm just having a conversation about cases and gigbags.

Tweed cases would go great with the classics. I just understand why they don't come with them. Luckily, there is an aftermarket solution.

This is what I take to gigs. I am the only one who handles my basses, and both gigbags have ample padding. So, they are perfectly safe. If EB offered a high end leather gigbag, I'd buy one. Until then, I'll make do with these. :D

I think the Classic looks great with a nicely worn leather gigbag. A more snazzy ride for the bass than your standard black plastic hardcase.

Yes, very nice! I would love to have a leather gigbag but I am a cheap old bastard. A leather bag with musicman written on it would be the ultimate christmas present. Are my kids listening?

Im using a Mono M80 Dual Bass Case and it more than satisfies the need for protection.. Id be doing all the handling flight case or brown paper bag.

Yesss... this would be something! Nice leather gigbag with MM logo. I could live with tweed gigbag also. ;)

I'd love a leather gigbag that had the old school Music Man logo on a big patch on the pocket. That'd be sweet. But, I'm not going to hold my breath.

Here's a nice tweed gigbag that I've been eyeing for when I get a 6 string Bongo next year for my 40th birthday. :D

I've been lucky so far. Both of my gigbags were found used in close to new shape. I think I have about $350 invested in both bags, which is about $200 less than the double leather reunion blues bag is new by itself. I have a feeling that I'll have to pay full price for the next bag since I want something very specific.
