I'm looking at one of the VPjr's for my pedal board, and I'm wondering which pedal to get, the 25 ohm one, or the 250 ohm one?
Here's my chain:

Telecaster (passive pups) > planet waves tuner > mxr compressor > Boss AW-3 auto-wah > BBE Tube screamer clone > ProCo you dirty rat > Univibe > Boss DD-3 delay > I'd put the volume pedal here > amplifier

I'm pretty sure the Boss pedals have a buffer in them. The other's I think are either by-pass or true by-pass.

So do I get the 25 ohm pedal or the 250 ohm pedal for this position?

Thanks

After the boss buffer, you're dealing with a low impedance signal. So the 25k would be the best choice.

"Where to put the VP" has always been a thing of debate. It's a tough thing. For me, I've always found that the way the signal/tone is affected depends largely on what type of effects the VP goes before or after.

I've always found that the VP behaves slightly differently before/after distortion/OD pedals. I'm no signal master, just my experience.

Nope, I have an old but classic solid state amp, a yamaha jx30. Circa 1980. No FX's loop. (The guitar is a warmoth (semi-hollow swamp ash body and a wide flame maple neck) with Bill Lawrence (the real guy) pups and a four way switch. I got other gits, but this baby is sweet).

Indeed ... I'll be using it as master volume. I got my tone the way like it, but there are variables when I stomp on my boxes, so rather than bending down and hitting the master volume on the amp, a volume pedal will do the trick.

By the way, thanks for your help. Much appreciated.:)

out of curiosity why put the volume pedal so far down the chain?

Hi Col

Ive recently introduced an EB volume pedal into my setup and have it first in the fx loop before my delays, choruses etc etc.
I was given that advice from a pro guitar player "Mike Casswell" from Licklibrary in the uk who uses it in the fx loop also. You can crank your amp right up and control your overall volume in the mix via the pedal which is gr8 for solos etc:)

My volume pedal is before the delay, which goes straight into the amp. Doing this lets you swell the volume up and down, but still have the delay on the signal to tail out naturally.

Mike is great, was he running the fx loop in series or parallel? I had a VP in my loop running parallel to bring in a delay (similar to the way Morse does it). I found that it had a hump in the volume about halfway.

It's been awhile, experimented with a vpjr 25k, and other pedals and have wound up with a dunlop dvp-1, a 250K pedal.
It works the best. The 25K did not work good, the sound was too thin. I highly recommend the dvp-1 for both buffered and non-buffered situations.
Cheers

Not really a great recommendation to have a 250k pedal in a low impedance signal path.

That's what I thought too, but I experimented ... I didn't mean to go against the conventional wisdom. I want to thank you guys for giving me the courage to go out and try out volume pedals. I've placed it before my reverb and delay pedals. It's a lot of fun and now a permament part of my rig. I think probably the advice should be with buffered pedals, go with the 25K pedal, but sometimes a 250K pedal will work just as well.

Thanks
