I don't even know if EB/MM has a custom shop so please just say so if it's not the case. I haven't owned an EB/MM bass in quite a while so I'm out of the loop.

I was checking out the Stingray Classic 4 and digging it for its two band preamp, but I don't like the small fingerboard radius and that I couldn't get it HH because I really require the lower frequencies from the neck pickup as in an HH 'Ray. On the other hand I like that the standard 'Ray can have double humbuckers like that, and has a flatter/bigger radius on the fingerboard, but I don't like the three band preamp very much. Also, I dig the tailpiece mutes on the Classic bridge (I use the Rickenbacker tailpiece mute all the time so I'm quite accustomed to that sort of thing) but can live without it.

Could I contact EB/MM to do a custom hybrid combining the features I like the best or is it a silly pipe dream? What kind of money would I be spending? I'm sort of GASing for another EB/MM and this would be a cool way to "rejoin the club" as it were, if it's possible.

Well blast.

What if I could get a new standard Ray, could I find a 2-band preamp to replace its 3-band with? I wouldn't care about it actually being vintage, in fact I'd prefer new.

2band pre's do pop up on the ebay from time to time. they tend to be expensive though, but keep an eye open and you might find a something :)
