After seeing all the cool photos of Mr. Horsepower, i got to thinking...
Everyone loves how cool and over-the-top these guitars are. Loads of people would want to own one, but doing a "reissue" would harm the collector value of the original run.
What if...
... there were another Mr. Horsepower series, done as a different kind of hot rod? I'm thinking maybe a Rat Rod.
Keep the same AL body style, only paint it flat black. Like the flattest "primer" black you can get. A subtle red and white pinstripe motif between the bridge and end pin would set it off nicely.
Maybe it should be a hardtail.
Keep the chrome exhaust pipes for sure. (All the rest of the hardware should be chrome, too.)
Maybe get DiMarzio to make a special "X8N" pickup with flat black bobbins and eight chrome X2N blades. (Imagine how HOT that would look right above those chrome pipes!) Keep the switching and the functional tachometer.
In keeping with the "stripped down" nature of Rat Rods, the neck should be plain-jane maple, with no face inlay dots, and a plain headstock.
I'd be first in line to buy one.
Who else is gonna line up behind me?
Any chance a limited edition like this could happen, BP?
A whole series of them could be done for CLBF, collaborating with various hot rod and custom bike builders. Maybe a limited run of 25 each year, and every year it's a new builder collaboration. Imagine what Chip Foose or Body Coddington could come up with.
Just an idea.
