The Sales Manager from the Atlanta GC called me last night to let me know about the ridiculous sale they were having today for Labor Day.

To make a long story short, I just got home with my new Carbon Blue SC/H Bongo 5. Not a mark on it (other than a reeeeealy dry fretboard), and the plastic is still on the pickguard. I don't like piezos with roundwounds, and I wanted a Bongo for rounds. The original plan was to get a single H for that duty, but the price was too good to pass up.

I walked out of the store with the bass and a new set of Slinkys for well under cost for the bass. I mean, as stupid of a price on Bongos as I have seen. While I was there, I sold two of their other Bongos for them, too. That's one of the reasons they like me so much there. :D

They had a couple of SUBs for stupid cheap, too. One of the 5 string passive SUBS for under 4 bills. If anyone wants the details, PM me...

Pics coming as soon as I clean this baby up, and treat this poor, dehydrated fretboard.

EDIT: I removed the price, so if you really want to know, PM me and I'll tell you. Unless, of course, a mod says that it's okay to post the price....

Jason, you punk.

I went up there yesterday. I was just about to leave and attempt to buy that CBP H/SC Bongo 5.

They have another one. At least, they did when I left. But, I'd call first.

The GC next to me is blowing out their Bongo's too. IT is only the death threat that my wife has hanging over my head that has stopped me from getting another one (Black 4HS or a C Blue 5HS) and you are right - the prices are beyond stupid (I did help them sell a DGold 5 HH - they love me too :D )

That SR looks pretty sweet, Randy. Enjoy it. And, enjoy jamming with your son.

Here's my new toy:

The fretboard soaked up some Dunlop Love Potion #15, and is now happy, and dark. Cleaned off all of the GC grime, too. The new Slinkys sound great, but I haven't checked the intonation yet. I put the antique acrylic orange pickguard on there, because it isn't truly mine until I've changed the pickguard. I like it--it's obnixous, like me. :D

The white ice that came with the CB 5er is temporarily on Moby--his tort will be going back on there soon.

I've got the same color and PU arrangement on mine. I'd be curious on some input when comparing your two 5's as far as the tones go. I much preferred the S/H. Thanks. I'm afraid to ask the price, because I'm pretty sure I paid more!

You totally need to throw the Tortoise shell on the carbon blue one, at least for a pic. I think that would be an awesome combo.

I had that on there for a minute, but I didn't take any pictures of it. I'll snap one this afternoon.

I'm considering selling this bass to a TBer in Austrailia for what I paid for it. It's an amazing Bongo (probably the angriest one I've heard), but I think I might be better off sticking with my plan. The bass is in pristine condition--even the tip of the headstock is still blue. I can't think of any other Bongos I've seen at GC in as good of shape. After I treated the fretboard, and put on the Slinkys I made them throw in  , it's as good as new. I simply couldn't pass the bass up at the price they had it marked, but I think I'm going to pass on the deal to someone else now.

I don't know what Guitar Center is doing? Why blow these things out and burn the earth for all other dealers? Why reorder Bongos.....Why do I have to spend time with their executives and hear how important we are for them and how we are a team and then they do this?

It's is good for a few lucky players but really bad for our brand and our other relationships. I wish they would think of someone other than themselves at times like this.

Posting on my board with something less than positive to say about GC is not a real smart idea. I defend GC all of the time and invest a lot of my time in areas that are above the normal scope of dealer and supplier relationships, but I call it as I see it and am not happy about this incident.

Why do they even bother to re-order Bongos? I'll admit, I bought my bongo for a steal from GC, but they do ruin your other dealer's business.

Well there is a GC here in town about 4 miles away. While I will say that having them there sucks, I think I am holding my own fairly well. We've been in business 52 years and Sept 1st last year we purchased a 2nd store - business is growing and I love every minute of it. :D

Sidenote - I have a used (5hrs) RadRed Bongo HS 4 here that I'm gonna toss up on ebaggg for a steal B.I.N. in a day or so, just need some better pics of it, it's been here too long.
