Well, I was gonna post last night here but thought the better of it and decided to post pics of myself in a bubble bath instead but now I see that Monkee is going to sell this bass to a TBer down under which is cool of him in one regard...it *is* a used bass now technically but now this GC sale thing has not only undercut other US dealers it's also circumventing BP's Australian distributor as well.

See how their practices only serve to toss a wrench into the entire works??

I also don't understand why any dealer would sell a product at what they paid for it...makes no sense at all unless it's their internal way of handling cash flow management. The seasonal "summer slump" this year was a bad one as compared to previous years and a lot of smaller shops are struggling right now. Some closed their doors as a result as a matter of fact. GC simply does whatever the hell they want to with blatant disregard for others in the industry and that's why I don't shop there personally.

I've always had a really good relationship with my GC guy. He's now the Sales Manager, so he passes off my deals to sales reps so they can get the commission. I don't have to haggle, he knows his stuff (and is smart enough to admit when he doesn't know as opposed to BSing his way through a wrong answer), and he calls me when stuff that I like is going to be on sale for crazy cheap.

When I traded a bass towards my first Bongo, he gave me more in trade than I would have gotten selling it outright online. When I ordered Moby, he beat Bass Central's best price--plus I got 15 months same as cash.

What's not to like?

If they are willing to lose money to get rid of some dead stock, I'm certainly not going to pass up a bargain on an amazing instrument. And, if I end up not keeping it, I won't feel bad about passing the savings along to someone else. I haven't signed any agreement with EB, so I'm not concerned about the Austrailian distributor.

FWIW, I understand a dealer's perspective on GC is obviously different from a consumer's perspective. I mean, I won't shop at Wal-Mart to save a buck--a boy has his limits...

No one's saying you should feel bad for taking advantage of a great deal nor should you worry about selling it to anyone else, no matter where they are.

If I ran into a deal like you did, I'd be on it like ugly on Lou Ferrigno.

You just did IMO...also be sure to let your buyer down under know that there is no factory warranty on that bass if he buys it from you.

Now back to this...peace...out...

He's a smart guy--I'm sure he's well aware that there is no warranty, but I will remind him, just to be sure. Assuming, of course, he buys it from me. If not, I'll probably hold onto it.

As for GC=WM, I can certainly follow the logic. But, IMO, a good salesman is a good salesman. So, while GC might have been signing his commission checks, I felt like I made out fairly every time I dealt with him. If he gets promoted, again, I probably won't deal with GC as much anymore since I don't have the energy, or cash flow, to cultivate another GC go-to guy.

Plus, I've always been pretty good about throwing my money to the indies, too.
