According to my limited experience the Cutlass are overrated. I've only had the opportinity to play two Cutlass I so far, but both were rather hard to play and soundwise somehow one dimensional. Any new SR blew them out of the water, in playability and tone.
The single most amazing thing about one of the Cutlass's was that it had absolutely no dead spots and extremely even response and decay over the whole fretboard. Smoother than an SR with Status neck. I almost bought it, but then I did and 1:1 comparision with my 100th NAMM SR4, and all of a sudden the asked price of 2500 USD seemd a bit steep
cutlas I and II brought a different feel to the mm arsenal. the basses have a vintage soung due to the era it was made. don't forget the cutlas gave way to the flea bass. it seems to be a subject of debate on this fourm as to which sounds better the "vintage mm" and "modern mm" (i'll leave that alone). as an owner of a cutlas I,II and namm bass. i must say i've had a lot of fun with all three. they're different but fun. i'll bet you'll enjoy them also. thats my story and i'm sticking to it.
