Hi guys. I've been playing bass for 6 years and have tried out several basses. My dream bass has always been a Musicman Sterling or a Musicman Stingray bass preferibly with a maple fretboard. Since I live in Malta and shipping costs are high, I'm opting for a second hand bass. If anyone wants to sell his for some reason or another, don't hesitate to contact me. I'm counting the days to become the next MM bassist.

:)

i know a lot of people have a love/hate relationship with Ebay. probably worth checking there ... if you find anything questionable you can post the link here and the "pros" can check out the link and let ya know if anything about the auction strikes them as "wrong"

good luck buddy. you'll definately love the bass when you finally get your hands on one ... and, "welcome to the addiction"

Welcome, James, and good luck with your search. Keep an eye on this place as used basses do come up occasionally.

Thanks for the replies buddies.

The budget I've allocated is around $1000 (inc. shipping costs). I know it's a bit limited

thanks,
james

Don't know if you've already seen this thread, but...

No problem. I'm also going to be looking for a used (hopefully new) Sterling at the end of November (bonus time!). Hoping to find either a Tobacco or Honey Burst.

Good Luck!

James, have a look at the For Sale threads on bassworld . There are often Stingrays and Sterlings up for sale and because it's a small on-line community we all know each other so it's a bit safer than eBay.

Hi, welcome to the forum.
Let's just hope you find one, it appears to be the time of the year. The last couple of weeks I've seen more 2nd hand Stingrays than a whole year.
Anyway, you're from Malta? Nice island, visited a year ago, and I was amazed by the ancient temples (I study archaeology, so Malta is a great place :D )

FWIW I did a quick check out of curiosity to see what the package size limitations were for shipping a bass to Malta via US Air Mail Parcel post and you should be fine: Dimensions: Max.length 60", max. length plus girth 108"

Shipping insured would cost you about $115 US this way so that leaves you roughly $900 for a used Stingray or Sterling which is about right IMO. I just sold a used Stingray 4 on eBay for $849.

Don't forget to allow for import duty and taxes. These can be quite significant in some countries. James I suggest you contact Customs and Excise to find out the duty, then you'll have to add VAT on the total.

Hey James,

It's a shame you didn't post like 2-3 months back. I just got back from Malta & would happily have brought your new bass to town.

Where are you based? I visit every year (g/f in 1/2 Maltese), so perhaps we could hook up next time....

I'll be sure to James.

It'll be next year, I'll try to bring the Camilleri family with me!

You got anywhere I can listen to your songs?
