I bought an Ernie Ball Musicman HH in December 2003. I filled out the warranty registration on line from the Ernie Ball website. How long does it take after you submit your registration on line, that you recieve your free set of strings that are to be mailed to you?

Can you still register online? I'd like to take advatage of that offer even if it does take a while for the strings to arrive.

I registered my last two "new" guitars on line, and received my sets of strings within four or five weeks of each... Of course, Christmas and NAMM have probably set their schedules back at least a month; they're probably just trying to catch up...

It was quick
about three weeks and as promised two sets of strings

The warranty is important ,
After 4 months the nut was begining to wear out
and cause buzzing when plucking the open G string

If the nut is not grooved just right it hastens the wear on it
I could have replaced it myself, but sent it to the factory
2weeks later it was back
it cost me $13.00 to ship it to them
that was it , the nut has been good for over a year now.
But I notice it is finally starting to act up again

Thanks Bing! I just registered online but I didn't see the free sets of strings option. Perhaps they stopped this promotion. Anyway thanks for the help. At least I saved the price of a stamp.

I just called the Ernie Ball company and spoke with Evan from customer service. Evan stated that it is taking a long time for customers to get their free set of strings and the girl who is doing it, is far behind. Maybe she should get a little help, because to me this is not good customer service. I left my name and serial number of my Axis with Evan, and he stated he would have the girl look into it. Time will tell!

Nancy - thanks for calling - I'm sure all of us who registered via the web will benefit.

BTW, for those of us who registered guitars, it's 3 sets; 1 set for basses.

Jon or Derek,

Is the "3 free sets of strings" offer no longer in effect?

I still plan to register my new guitar when I receive it, but I always like to get something for free. ;)

Since they're giving you something for nothing, I don't see how complaining about the turn-around time is justified... If people whinge about it taking too long, they're more likely to just stop giving out the free strings all together - after all, if you don't want warranty service you don't have to register ;) But the bottom line is that Ernie Ball is a small company - I'm sure the girl who ships these strings out has other duties, and with Christmas and NAMM just fell behind, which is totally understandable...

On the flip side, Fender make their own strings, as do Gibson and Martin, and I don't recall any of them offering me free strings when I registered a new guitar of theirs...

I don't think you'll have to worry about your strings, it just takes time. As Jimi mentioned, namm and the holidays probably slowed the process.

But since we're complaining...when I registered my Morse and EVH, back in 1991....:)

Jimi D, once again the man that takes my thoughts and converts them into pretty little letters on the screen. :)

You know, when I bought my first EVH in '92, I never heard anything about free strings. Back in my day, we had to make our own strings out of catgut and bubble gum. :p (Ladies and gents, my day was 15 years ago; I'm not that old!)

The designated string girl will get you your strings, whether she gets a pay raise or not, thanks to the board-appointed title given her. Remember the old adage: "good things come to those that wait".

Oh, and the other one..."shut up and play!" :)

Catgut and bubble gum! Oh, we used to dream about making our own strings out of catgut and bubble gum... In my day, we'd have to get up at 11 o'clock, half an hour before we went to bed, eat a hand full of cold gravel, work a twenty-eight hour day down at the mill, and pay the mill owner tu'pence a week for the priveledge, and when we got home, our dad would send us out to the trenches to cut our guitar strings from barbed wire during aerial bombardments... An' we were the lucky ones!

By getting my strings, this ensures me that Ernie Ball has my information. I could care less about getting something for free. I have a good job and make good money. But I am sure that those on this board don't turn their nose up on free stuff. Those who go to Namm, load their goddies bag up with all kinds of free promo stuff. I know I am one of them when I go to a Namm Show. I like the cool stuff that the guitar company's give away.

You've got a good point Nancy - some sort of acknowledgement would be good when registering on-line... Even if they just set up a quick'n'dirty auto-response system that said "Thank you for registering your instrument. Your xxxx serial number xxxx has been registered to xxxxx xxxxxxxxx in our database. Please allow up to 10 weeks for your free set(s) of strings." That way people would know that their instrument has been registered for warranty purposes, and they wouldn't be left wondering if the whole thing just got lost in traffic on the 'net....

Thank you Jimi for agreeing with me. When you sign up on a website for email updates or whatever, you usually get a "thank you, you have now just signed up to get the latest updates on blah blah blah"!
I'm sure in the next month or so, I will get some kind of confirmation from Ernie Ball.
