Hey everybody,
I've been having for quite a while now a few issues with my JP7 Blue Dawn. A bit of background first: I'm mostly a bedroom guitar player using my iPad and JamUp Pro to get my sounds. I've never been completely satisfied with my sound but I always assumed it was because of, well, the iPad. But it occurred to me today what if I tried my old ESP guitar and see how that sounds. Unfortunately, it sounded awesome. So it got me thinking if there was a problem with my Music Man.
A simple exercise: playing power chords. For example, playing an F power chord and muting the E string. The same with an D power chord while muting the B string. That produced so much noise! It was awful. But, move that power chord to A, muting again the E string and everything cleared up.
After a bit of thinking and experimenting I believe I found the problem. By relieving the neck with the truss rod I found a position where the sound cleared up. Adjusting the truss rod seemed to have an effect on the clarity of the sound in the first two strings. BUT, there was no buzz in the first place! The bridge is perfectly aligned. So, now the action is set too high but I get a clear sound. If I lower the action a bit by turning the truss rod there goes the muddy sound again.
In summary: B & E strings (1st through 5th fret) are very noisy but when I turn the truss rod (towards my body) the sound gets 'fixed'. But now the string height is too high.
Is there any way to fix this maybe? I hope I made myself clear
Thanks in advance.
