I have some jbjr's i tried in my silo.Didn't like them much. But i do like the vintage sl1's on my sss guard and the jazz and 59 full size bucker's on my hsh guard. I also like the sss active Emg's my silo came with. They are a good compromise between the bucker's and single coils.A bit more drive then the s,coils,a bit more crisp bite then the buckers.

If you don't want the pup anymore, give me a PM, I may be interested. Is it trembucker spacing?

The Axis pickups are specially voiced for that guitar. I remember BP saying that they put alot of R & D into making pickups that brought out the best of the Axis.

I have an alder bodied Kramer that the JB came out of. I just swapped out the pickups between the two...it sounds really good in the Kramer, but the Axis is my 'go to' guitar;)

I've also tried out a Dimarzio Super distortion, a Norton and a ToneZone in my axis, and at the end of the day I just put the stock pickup back in. It just sounded the best of the bunch.

I've tried the JB in lots of guitars, and I just can't seem to get a good sound of it - It seems so icepicky and lacking in the mids department. Great for bedroom shredding - but put it in a band context and it seems shrill.

Yeah, on Seymours website he recommends 250k pots with the JB.
Dimarzio are usually the go to pickups for basswood body guitars for the most part, but their is a couple of SD pickups that sound great in basswood.(Pearly Gates being one)
That's weird - I always thought the JB was really strong in the mids. I've got a couple in some alder-bodied guitars with 250K pots and they cut through really well, not shrill at all...more like a good "honk"-y kind of tone.

But going back to the Axis stock bridge pickup - I'm with you: it's a great sounding pickup and there's no reason for me to want to swap it out.

Yeah.."Honk-y" sounding, that's what it sounded like in my Axis. Kinda like a cocked wah sound

I think we're talking about the same kind of thing - I think the description of the JB as a "cocked wah soundalike" is pretty much spot on - in my ears, not a pretty sound. The axis pickups has lots of mids, but the big difference is that the boost is centered around low mids - IMO much better sounding and same cutting through power. In my ears the JB hasn't really got any lower mids worth speaking off.

I wonder if it was out of phase? That happened when I first installed my DLX Plus in my black axis SS. When I wired it up with the red lead to the switch and green to ground that's exactly what it sounded like, a cocked wah... I had to swap the red and green wires. Sounds like it should now... ???
