Well this is odd......'77 Stingray

I took in another abused project today, '77 body with a '79 neck. Someone did terrible things to this bass and it needs to be brought back to life. What I find odd is that there are no pick guard holes on the body, there are other holes caused by the previous abuser, but no pick guard screw holes. Anyone seen this before?

Apart from the extra pickup cavity that’s been filled in I’m guessing they have been filled over, the photos are not very clear. But I do love a good restoration project
 
Sometimes they did that for retailers who may have wanted an instrument for themselves without the pickguard attached. I have a pic of one (somewhere) sent to me by a music store owner. I'll post it when I find it.
 
Yes Danny, soon it will be hidden, as I'll be planing off the top and re capping it with .25" piece of northern ash.

That’s a full on restoration, it’s going to look amazing again!
Don’t forget to put up some progress photos as you are doing it :)

I found this in an old thread.
I know the current owner and the bass is 1977.
