So today I went into Guitar Center looking for a DiMarzio Cotton Cliplock, and just sitting there I saw a blue SUB1 for $400! The previous owner replaced the pups with Seymour Duncans and removed the tone pot, which was really cool. It sounds great and feels good. I don't like it quite as much as my JP, but it's a really really great guitar, especially for the price I got it at. Now I have a guitar that I can mess with and don't feel like I have to baby haha. I can just throw it in the gig bag and take it places.

But I do have some questions. I might replace the pickguard, but I would like it so that it's fit for 2 humbuckers, the 3 way toggle, but only the volume knob. Is there a website that can do this? Blue Swirl would be preferred.

I also might replace the tuners with Schaller locking. Will they fit right in the holes? I don't want to do any drilling or anything. Does anyone know a website where I can order the Schallers with 4 right and 2 left or whatever?

When I was paying for it the lady who was working there said she was mad because she wanted to buy it haha. She already had a burgundy SUB1 and it's her favorite guitar.

So, I am very pleased. Thanks everyone! I don't have a camera, sorry :)

Chandler Guitars (pickguardheaven.com) will do deletions at no charge, so you could do the 2HB, switch and volume and drop the tone, just as you're describing. I just picked up a SUB1 myself recently and am about to place an order with them as well (black/creme/black on black for me; not quite as adventurous as you with the blue swirl). I've ordered from them previously and was sufficiently pleased to be back for more. Congrats on the new piece.

the Silhouette Special pickguard and the Benji Madden are the ame size as the SUB. You could get one made and have them customize the layout for you.

Pickguardheaven.com actually makes alot of Music Man style pickguards, including the SUB (3953). Give them a call, and they can hook you up.

Also, try this place. They have a color called "Silver Pearl" that looks exactly like the blue swirl that EBMM offers. you may have to send them your pickguard, or trace it on paper.

schaller locking tuners from EBMM customer service.....and you will have to drill small pilot holes for the mounting screws. rather easy to do.

Those guys have glitter pickguards in the "coming soon" section....for you sparkle fans with silos or alberts that would top them off! :)

Haha, sorry guys, I don't have a camera. But thanks for all the help. I'm rethinking the tuners now because I'm not good with drilling holes and since it's a hardtail the tuning stability is fine. I'm still going for the pickguard though.

Tell the GC girl to look in our F/S thread and pick up my Sub 1 hh/trem in black with a case for pretty much the same money.

I went into GC looking for a strap and came out with a strap.

You did a lot better than me. Grats on the sub!

It's true. I have a hard tail SUB1 and it stays in tune very very well. I think getting locking tuners would be a bit superflous.

Yep, really no need for locking tuners with a fixed bridge...

Congrats on your second EB!! I've always wanted to get a Sub1 and put EMGs in it...

Update: I put new strings on it today and set it up for Drop D. I cranked it through the Rectoverb, and I was in tonal heaven. It sounded almost as good as my JP. Just two very different sounds. I think the pickups (which I believe are a JB and Jazz- any way to check?) are great for Drop D tuning, kind of an Adam Jones vibe, which is a great vibe haha.

MusicManJP6- Do you know if the Cotton Cliplocks come in blue?

Nice pick up. I love the hardtail Sub. Stays in tune like nobody's business and always looks brand new.
