Hi guys,
we went to the Deep Purple gig over here in Brussels Yesterday. Thanks to 'the powers that be'
, we got hold of backstage passes so I had a short chat with Steve about this and that.
The show: incredible, smooth, really on fire, all of them. Steve is using the Y2D most of the time, he only played number 1 on two or three songs and then a tremolo one on Speed King.
Aftershow: - Steve signed the back plate of my Y2D (pictures will follow one day, I know, I know, ...
)
- his wife is better now, but still weak and he seemed to hate being away from her
- I asked if he ever read posts on the forum over here, but he said he didn't have time to do anything like that (he mentioned he was afraid to switch on his laptop because he had about 4000 mails to read and the number was growing daily)
- no Living Loud shows in the near future, if ever, because of lack of time
- Steve is playing the prototype Y2D on stage (so with the extra switch). As the open house visitors know, there were three Y2Ds in the box for Steve when we were there. I asked him about them, but he only takes one Y2D on tour with him because airline companies keep wrecking his guitars
- he was quite impressed when I mentioned I have three of his signature guitars (I know I didn't have to mention Tommy because Steve probably knows you have 5 or even more by now?
)
- although his smiling and grinning self throughout the entire show, it felt as if he was a bit itchy about the enormous amount of shows Deep Purple is doing. He mentioned he didn't even have time to say hello to his kids, and being the family man he is, he didn't really like things being that way
- when I mentioned my presence at the open house, he seemed to remember me adding: 'oh yeah, I remember, I am such a zero...
By all, guys, if Deep Purple plays somewhere near you, go check 'em out. And if you know where the backstage entrance is, hang out there and try to catch a glimpse of Steve. He is not only a fantastic guitar player, but also a great guy. And BP and all of you at EBMM: he really loves his guitars.
EBMM rocks and so does Steve.
He really made my day Yesterday and his music will continue doing so for a very long time.
Greetz,
Tom.
