I have 2 Silhouettes with Floyd Rose bridges that I loooove. Until recently, I hadn't played any other EBMM guitars but these. I bought a regular Silo (used) a couple of months ago but something felt weird, it just didn't play like my FR silos. About that time, I went over to GC in Natick, MA, and tried out an ASS (also used), and also didn't love it.
Fast forward to yesterday: I went back to GC in Natick and found they have a new batch of EBMMs in stock, including a BFR ASS, two Lukes, a Silo and a JP.
I played the Axis (a beautiful rosewood neck model) and the neck felt great! I also played their Silo, and it played just like my Floyd equipped silos!!
The only difference I could find between the guitars that felt great to me, and the ones that didn't, was the string spacing at the nut. I measured the FR nut and the strings are spaced 1 3/8" - then I measured my 1998 silo and the strings are 1 7/16" - only 1/16" difference! The new guitars I tried at GC have a different nut that my 98 silo, they are compensated while mine is not, and the string spacing seemed narrower...
So my question is, is 1/16" that big a difference when it comes to string spacing? Or am I just imagining things?
Does anybody else find it weird that I spend so much time thinking about the nuts of my balls?
