I thought my rig was getting tired during rehersals.....second guesing everything i had....do i need a new head, valves, pups, cables, strings, fingers.

Got to sound check last night and went through another guys cab....all my worries went away.

OMG what a difference a decent cab makes. I could just concentrate on playing and not worry about my sound.

The cabs in the rehersal space must be trashed. And the moral of the story is.....dont buy a great head then save on the cab.

Good news is i have the whole show on video and will post up here soon so all you knuckleheads can watch the show (big ASS content!!!)

Yeah, not only the cab man, but also the speakers and their age.

I had a vintage carvin 4x12 loaded with vintage greenbacks which were apparently in fantastic condition. (didn't know at the time until I spoke with the person who sold it to me)

ANyways, long story short, I sold it for cheap, around $400 cause the exterior was worn down and it had tons of road wear. Buyer came in, took off the front panel, checked inside, pulled the speaker and examined it, then immediately offered for it. I laughed thinking I got a great deal. A week later, I figure what a cab with quality internals like that were worth and I cried like a baby.

great story Jonny.
and i´m with you on that. i would say that cabs make 40%-50% of the over all sound.
if you have a cheap cab, or the wrong speakers for you head, it will not sound good at all.

i prefer old marshall cabs, they should be made something between 1975 and 1983. have a few of them and they all sound better as any new marshall cab.
for classic-rock tone, go for a marshall 1960 lead or 1935 bass with 260 watts. there are G12-65 celestions in it and these are the classic-rock speakers of all time!
alternative to this cab are old 1982 cabs, with 120 watts, there are G12H30 in it - this is one of the best speakers, but if you are using a mesa head, they are not that great.
if you wanna cab for metal, go for a 1982A/B with 320 or 400 watts, there are G12H80 or G12H100 in it. these speakers are great for any kind of metal style.
for my mesa roadster i prefer an old 1982A cab but i changed speakers to V30s+G12T75 mixed.

and last words, i never go to a gig without one of my cabs. ;)

just my 2 cents. :)

I know what you are talking about! I have used a few cabs in my day. Right now I have been useing a Marshall 1960A with the G12T75 with my Mesa Triple Rec and it seems to suit iw well. I did have a Peavey 5150 cab for a bit and it lacked low end so I swapped it out for a Mesa cab that had too much low end and sounded muddy. I traded the Mesa cab to a buddy of mine for the Marshall and have not looked back. I find it has a good balance between the both. As of now the only cab I would think about replacing it with would maybe be an Orange PPC412 but I hate to mess up a good thing.

Yes they do!!! The other member or my band uses a PPC412 with his Laney VH100R and I would say they weigh 100 + pounds. Their sound is so tight and focused its a killer cab.

I use Splawn amps and cabs. Top notch quality, great tone, at a great price!

I've always had the same cab and I've loved it with every head I've tried. However, that being said, I've heard other 6505+ heads (which is what I use) through Marshall 1960 lead cabs that sound just phenomenal. I actually can't decide if I want to pick up another guitar, or another amp (head and cab) setup for my next big purchase.

Cabs make a hell of a difference and are so often overlooked in the search for tone. This THD 2x12 is killer and I love the paisley too! :)
