I know this sounds weird and I am sure it depends a lot on what style of music you play but I am wondering if there is amp that compliments EBMM guitars well like examples of:

PRS with Mesa Boogie

Les Paul and a Marshall etc..

My style is very much Rock.

I guess another way to phrase the question is, what amps are you using with your EBMM guitars??

Cheers,

Tobin

You will find that guitarists on this forum use many different makes of amps, amps are an individual preference based on the sound you are looking for and the style or styles you play, I am still looking for mine.

+1 that they go well with all sorts of different amps. I was loving playing a Luke through a Twin the other day.

I have a Mesa F-30. My JP sounds fine through it. So does my 20th Silo. I've tried an Egnater Mod 50, with a JP and my 20th Silo. I was blown away. I was likewise blown away when I tried an AL and a Luke through a Fender '65 Twin Custom 15. I've also been blown away by the Y2D and the 20th through the Mesa F-100.

You're going to get all sorts of people telling you that they use all sorts of amps. Orange, Marshall, Engl, Line 6, Dr. Z (The 20th sounds fantastic throught a Stang Ray BTW), Soldano, Roland Micro Cube, VHT, and many more.

The real question is what do you like for your style of music. What amp sounds good to you? What amp feels right to you when you play through it?

Amps I like

I really like a warm tube sound. My style is mostly blues and rock. I have owned a 5150 stack(Wish now I had not sold that) and a mesa boogie combo. Might look into getting another mesa or trying that new Peavey Joe Satrani amp

I'm playing my JP through Laney GH50L and a Marshall 1960 4x12 box (with T75s inside) and it sounds great. Before the Laney head, I played Marshall JCM2000 TSL100 and it also sounds good, but I like Laney more! Laney and Marshall sound alike, but Laney gives me much more clarity.

Since some time now I am using a modified Peavey Bravo 1x12 combo amp from the early nineties as my main amp at home and in rehearsals.
This amp was made from '91 to '93 if I'm not completely mistaken and sports a very loud 25 watts out of a way good 2x EL84 power section. I changed OEM to TAD STR powertubes which gave a little more power and kick to the amp.
The clean channel was already almost clean-clean, but cooling it down again using a 12AY7 tube instead of the OEM 12AX7 in the preamp section gives it sort of a f*nderly warm touch.
The gain channel goes from heavy crunch to absolutely insane distortion with additional boost option on the gain pot...
Long stories short: Super versatile little beast - VERY loud, especially after upgrading to a Celestion V30 speaker. Kicks major a** :D
Like Rob, I tried a PV Classic 30 combo, too - liked the sound very much and would also consider buying...

I also have a very nice old Marshall JCM800 1960a cab from '83 sporting Celestions G12T 75s like Ivan. I love the just slightly scooped mids of the cab and it sound fantastic when run with the above mentioned combo amp.

I also lately bought a PV Valveking 100 head just for fun to see what a real cheapo pure tube head like that would sound like and am really pleased with it in combination with the Marshall cab. Good bang for the buck, though a bit noisier than a few "better" amps...

Have tried a Diezel Herbert with matching cab at a friend's lately and loved the amp in conjunction with my purple Silo Spec and the SUB. Diezels are beyond compare...

Once my JP gets here, I will be running it through my JSX head and Genz Benz cab. I have played a JP through it before and it sounded amazing!!

I too play through a Peavey. It is a XXX. It sounds AWESOME, but I wouldn't mind to migrate to a Mesa. After all, Petrucci uses Mesa! The trick will be selling my XXX and promptly buying a mesa to minimize the time without an amp! The practice amp really doesn't count when it comes to band practice/gigs.

(P.S. - The XXX & cab are both FOR SALE... :D )

I love my Orange! But I've played EBMMs through many different amp and they sound good in them all (5150, DSL, Budda, Mesa - especially the Stiletto!, Fender Bassman, etc...). However, I played an ASS through the new Marshall Vintage Modern 50w half stack at GC this weekend - holy cow! That thing sounded amazing!!! BUT, you have to give it some breathing room - the amp sounds thin and buzzy, unless and until you turn the master volume up to at least 4 - then it truly sounds blissful! :)

I don't do high gain or even much crunch, more clean and/or classic rock. My Silos love my re-tubed LH50 and LC50 Laney amps using Em. Wizard speakers. Every once in awhile I consider selling or trading one of these amps, just for something different, but when I plug into them I forget all about that. Happy as a clam with the tones I get.

Limiting this to just the outstanding combinations, here's my humble opinion:

My Albert Lee and my Axis SS with MM90s love my Dr. Z MAZ 18, Carr Rambler, and Peavey Classic 30.

My Axis loves my Dr. Z, Naylor Electraverb 38, and my Peavey 5150.

And, my 20th Silo loves them all (not kidding).

Also, I just impulse bought a Luke on Friday, and what a guitar! Still putting that one through it's initial paces, but it sounds like heaven through the Rambler, with and without pedals.

My 20th was an impulse buy too, walked into the store not looking for a guitar and definitely not looking for a Silo. Here's hoping the Luke might be the same way :).

Oh yeah, the 20th Silo or the Luke with the Vox AD50VT are about as versatile a rig you can get with a sub-$400 amp.

My $0.02, YMMV.

It is a great amp. The AL + Rambler really shines a light on how sloppy a player I am. I played the Luke I wound up buying through a Rambler in the store as well. It is a very honest and transparent amp, and just sucks pedals in like soda through a straw.

Really enjoy these posts

Hey Everyone,

Thanks, I am really enjoying these posts with what everyone is using with amps. You all have given me a lot of ideas for my next visit to the amp room at my local shop.

Keep em coming,

Cheers,

Tobin
