What body woods are used with what finishes?

i have several ebmm catalogs and they say that sterlings and stingrays are made of alder, ash or poplar depending on the finish. which woods are used with which finishes? i'm sure this question has been asked before but i'm a newbie to the forum. is there a site that has this info?

i'm particularly interested in knowing what a black sterling's body wood is made of. thanks!

i think ash is used if its a trans finish due to the fact that it has nicer grain.

yes, i think the natural finish ones are obviously ash due to ash's beautiful grain pattern. that's why i was wondering what wood was used for the black finish.
